I have horrible knees so lunges for me are never an option. I do suffer through squats but I get it done. What other exercise can I substitute this with? I'm getting insanity today and I know that lunges are a part of the work out program.

If you have have bad knees, Insanity may aggravate them. Be sure to modify the moves when you need to. There's lots of jumping in the videos.

Do you have any particular medical problem or it's just undiagnozed pain? I suffered from mysterious knee pain, as well as back pain which I associated with my scoliosis, and guess what? I cured both pains with exercise! :) And I did squats and lunges as well. A friend of mine advised me to use a mirror at the beginning to check my form when doing these exercises to make sure my knees don't go further to the front than my toes. I used it for about a week to learn proper form and simply I was going into the exercise only as deep as I could while keeping the perfect form. Ripped in 30 helped me to overcome problem with lunges, squats, and knee pain. Ever since I haven't had problem with my knees when running or even walking down the stairs (which used to be painful). No issue with my knees after starting Insanity either, I just make sure to land very softly when doing different types of jumps in plyo training. This is my personal experience, and probably doesn't apply to everybody, but if you don't have any severe issues and really want to do Insanity I would just say pay a lot of attention to your form, knee behind toe, soft landing, and basically ease yourself into it slowly. Good luck!
