Iceberg lettuce is nutritionally challenged, there's just nothing in it. I personally like romaine I believe it is full of good nutrients and has a taste, but I think on the whole any of the greener leafy lettuces are better for you than iceberg.

I had no idea there were differences in lettuces with some being 'worse' for you than others, so bump for future referral to this topic!

I had iceberg today, I like it - so it doesn't make much difference to me.

There all good in a nutritional way and because there extremely low in calories it really doesn't matter which one is better when total calories and nutrition is taken into consideration, eat what you like and combine as many you find appealing.

I've heard that the darker the leaf the more nutritious it is.

I tend to find any salad leaves are just there to fill a salad out. The quantity you need for it to count as "1 of your 5" is pretty big.

This. I stick with spring mix and other dark greens like spinach. If would be interesting to see a chart of salad greens and the nutritional differences to make a comparison.

Darker is definitely better. I eat romaine, spinach and green leaf lettuce for the most part... I avoid iceburg because it tastes bland, and also because if I'm going to have a salad, I want it to be as nutrient dense as I can make it, so I opt for a darker green.
