Add a few drops to your face wash. You have to dilute it otherwise it can burn your skin as it is caustic.
If you want to spot treat, use 1 drop of TTO with 10 drops of water. Rub this mixture into the blemish.
Personally I use Desert Essence face wash that has TTO in it. And I add a few more drops of my own TTO to it for good measure. Using apple cider vinegar as a toner is also good for combating acne. You dilute it 50/50 with water.0 -
I've used it for warts with success! I'm sure you'd want to dilute it with another oil, such as coconut oil, since straight up tea tree oil can cause burns if left on skin. Otherwise I would highly recommend using just coconut oil for the acne. I used to get mild acne and used a little coconut oil and it helped SO much!0

I didn't use it for acne I just tried it as a natural face wash in place of other products that are full of chemicals. I found it to be pretty good, I sense it really gets in to the pores and dries them out. I have quite fair skin, using it soon after shaving made my skin flake a little. Now I just use it every other day. I like it
If Neutrogena products are sold where you are, look for a facewash of theirs with salicylic acid in them. When I was younger I was prone to spots, I searched online and once I'd filtered through all the promotional nonsense and advertisements I found out that anything with salicylic acid in is good for dealing with spots. Its been my go-to facewash ever since, it worked well and I had a lot less breakouts than before.
Healthy eating and juicing leafy green veg is what I really recommend tho. Since I started doing that my skin really shines and looks alive. You don't need to spend a fortune on that, even a few carrots and half a bell pepper every day will dramatically clean your skin out. Going for the leafy greens is a shock to the body that really pays off on the skin.0 -
I try to eat a good amount of fruits and veggies everyday and I have a pretty balanced diet. I have tried almost everything out there, including neutrogena products. I think they work OK for me. My skin is pretty oily.... I currently use cetaphil and go 360 clean exfoliating scrub, and a matte oil free moisturizer and matte bare minerals foundation. I was asking about tea tree oil because I was thinking about trying a product line by The Body Shop that are all made with tea tree oil, as opposed to using drops of the oil as some of you have suggested.0

I would try Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean™ Face Wash - Original Oily and Combination Skin. it has tea tree oil in it..
its the best stuff i have used. vitacost.com has it for cheap0 -
There is definitely nothing to lose by trying the tea tree oil products. What they definitely do well is dry your skin and get deep in to your pores. If it works out well for you it may have to get worse to get better, but that would be as it draws the baddies out and should be days rather than anything like weeks. I feel it's definitely a "does what it says on the tin" kind of substance.
And I must say I haven't tried anything before that dries the skin out so well. I've tried a fair few bits and pieces over time, nothing like tea tree oil. Keep an look out for flaking of the skin if you do try it. It might not be something you can use twice every day. 4-5 days of use should let you know whether that's the case or not.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions!0

i used 'dessert essence' tea tree oil wipes for quite a while, when my acne was worse. (these days my skin isn't as oily so i don't need them) i was very pleased with this product. i noticed though that they would sting my face sometimes (when my oil level started to go down).0

Why is it Used for Acne?
Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's antimicrobial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions has been thought to destroy Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is involved in the development of acne.
Research
Although tea tree oil is a popular remedy for acne, there have been few studies on tea tree oil and acne.
A single-blind, randomized study by the Department of Dermatology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia compared the effectiveness and tolerance of 5 percent tea tree oil gel with 5 percent benzoyl peroxide lotion in 124 people with mild to moderate acne. People in both groups had a significant reduction in inflamed and non-inflamed acne lesions (open and closed comedones) over the three month period. Although the tea tree oil took longer to work initially, there were fewer side effects with tea tree oil. In the benzoyl peroxide group, 79 percent of people had side effects including itching, stinging, burning, and dryness. Researchers noted that there were far fewer side effects in the tea tree oil group.
A smaller study published in 2007 involved 60 people with mild to moderate acne who were treated with either a gel containing 5 percent tea tree oil or a placebo for 45 days. Researchers found that the tea tree oil worked better than the placebo in reducing the severity and number of acne lesions.
Large double-blind, randomized controlled trials are needed before we can determine the effectiveness of tea tree oil for acne.
Should It Be Applied Undiluted to Acne?
Undiluted tea tree oil may cause skin irritation, redness, blistering, overdrying, and itching when applied directly to the skin.
The concentration used in studies was a 5 percent tea tree oil solution, which was applied to acne prone areas.0 -
