Any mudders? How about old mudders?

Pushing 59 years old here. I've been a MFP member for almost a year now and have made very good progress towards achieving my goals. Still a ways to go. I've been running (well jogging is probably a more appropriate term), biking and generally trying to be more active. A couple of weeks ago I was visiting my stepson and his family and his wife invited me to participate in a 5K Mud Run in her husband's place (he really didn't want to do it). I did and discovered two things. First, since I hadn't trained at all for that type of an event, I was in pretty poor shape to do it (bruises on top of my bruises!). Second, I did finish and absolutely loved it!

I'm looking for any other mudders or wannabe mudders out there who want to share experiences, training advice, etc. Wouldn't even mind teaming up with a couple of old mudders to do a run someday. Send me a FR!

Did you do the one in Moosic, PA? It looked like so much fun! I want to try it!

No, the one I did was in Jacksonville, FL while on vacation. I am looking at the Hero's Rush and Savage Race in PA this year. Hero's Rush, not so much mud and looks to be fairly easy. Savage Race...don't know about that half pipe!

I haven't heard of those. The one in Moosic was on the news over the weekend and looked like so much fun! There is nothing like that around here.

Yeah, that one was the Dirty Girl 5K, I believe. Near Scranton, PA, right? Both the Hero's Rush and Savage Race are being held in Albrightsville which is down by Hickory Run State Park, south of Scranton. The Dirty Girl, from what I have read, is a good beginner one to try. Not as hard as some of the others but still work. A lot of fun and a lot of mud!

<==younger mudder (31). Did two last year--one with my dad who is 55. Loved it, but I left him after the first mile. Old man just couldn't keep up

Training: I run (half marathons, etc.) and lift heavy. That's it.

A friend has convinced me to sing up for Pretty Muddy (women only - sorry!) in October in Atlanta. I'm looking forward to it. The idea of it is motivating me to get moving!

I used to run "O" courses a lot in the military. Hardest one I ever did was in the soft sand in Pensacola, FL. Damn soft sand was the worst part! The one at the Marine Corps base in Quantico most resembles the sorts of mud runs people do today. Much harder to do these days at my age and fitness level. I can work on the fitness but have to accept the age thing. My tough mudder will most likely be in Tampa, FL or Pittsburgh, PA next year.
