Hi everyone!

I have been a MFP member for awhile, but only recently started to really utilize it. I joined Weight Watchers about 3 1/2 years ago and had great success but mostly watching what I ate. I was a full-time nursing student so exercising was out of the question. It always seemed to be around finals week that Weight Watchers would have a new and improved plan and I found it very difficult to focus on both the plan and my studies. Eventually, my only focus was on school. I cancelled my Weight Watchers membership and thought that I could still continue to follow the plan on my own. Boy was I wrong! Since then I have slowly gained back much of what I had lost.

I joined WW for a second time at the end of February of this year but subsequently have done a lot of research and feel that MFP will work just as well if not better than WW.

I have a few big events coming up. I'm in my friend's wedding at the end of June and I of course want to look and feel my best. I am also going away on vacation to the beach at the end of August and I definitely want to be healthy when I go.

I also feel stuck. I still live at home (I'm trying to save as much money as I can) and when I'm not at home, I'm at boyfriend's parent's. His mom doesn't cook anything healthy and everything Is served family style. I have a huge problem with portion control. I don't have much control over what is made for dinner whether I am at home or my boyfriend's parent's. I don't want to be rude or be that person that always wants something different than what is prepared - everyone has a full time job and they have worked long and hard all day. No one wants to come home and have to make something different for everyone for dinner.

I recently joined a gym and purchased a personal training package, which was going ok in the beginning. But I recently started a new job and my trainer did not seem to be willing to work around my schedule, which has been varying the last 2 weeks. I am not confident to go to the gym on my own and use the equipment.

I am feeling very lost and stuck. I don't know if my target calories are appropriate for myself. Some days I can definitely eat the allotted amount, but there are other days that I'm just not as hungry.

I have heard of extreme diets such as the JUDDD diet or the HCG diet, both of which don't seem very healthy to me.

Can anyone help? Is anyone looking for a buddy?

Stay healthy, don't fall into the fad diets. When it comes to eating with family, portion control is your best friend. Try to measure out what you eat you would be amazed at how much your really getting. Try to familiarize yourself with the gym get to the point where you can walk in and know your way around the machines that way you don't rely on a trainer. It takes patience but its worth it. And hey when my friends make fun of me for watching what I eat when we do stuff I just say hey shut up I look better than Hal of these people in this joint and we all laugh.
