hi

I have been using this site for a while but never posted a question. I count my calories but never included exercise. my wife says I should be eating more to take into account my exercise. when I added my 30 min run per day it increased my calorie goal. so the question is should I increase my intake? my weight loss has slowed but I have been running for years and put this down to the fact I think my body has got used to the exercise. Is my wife right that on days where I do exercise I should eat more? it does not seem right.

regards

tony

With the way MFP is set up, yes.

MFP gives you a goal that you will lose weight if you don't exercise. By not eating your exercise calories, you could be creating too large of a deficit which could harm you later down the road.

    For example:

MFP estimated daily burn without exercise: 2060
    MFP goal: 1560
Deficit of 500 calories. If you exercise though, your daily burn goes up.

MFP estimated daily burn without exercise: 2060
    Exercise burn: 300
    Total daily burn estimate: 2360
To maintain a 500 cal deficit you would need to eat 1860. This is why MFP adds exercise back. If you don't eat the 300 calories you burned with exercise, your deficit will be increased to 800.
