I've met people in my life that have thought that way, that ridicule, put downs.. negative motivation was a way to get someone/myself feeling so bad that we'd do something to change ourselves. But in reality what their actions were doing was the total opposite of what they intend.
Negative motivation rarely succeeds. I don't know why so many think it's a good way to go about things. Positive encouragement when you see someone doing something positive for their issue, is the way to go.
