Exceeding my own expectations.

When I joined MFP at the beginning of April and put in my first day's worth of food it told me that in 5 weeks I would weigh 194 Lbs. And each day stayed roughly around the same amount. I did splurge a few times, so I was not expecting much.
Besides, weight loss wasn't the thing I was aiming for, I wanted to learn consistency, and I'm still here. So win-win.
This morning I weighed myself and was at a happy 190. It's a huge deal for me to see the number drop, and even more exciting to see how little my tummy is now compared to then.
Here's to another 5 weeks and hopefully I'll be closer to 180 Lbs by then.
What little things have changed in as little as 5 weeks that make you stupidly happy?

thanks for your post. I can relate. I started just 5 days ago bc at 44 yo I realize I don't know how to portion or mentally keep track of when I've splurged. I can already see changes, i'm not ever too hungry, and if I am I grab a healthy snack....its just so nice to feel in control now.

I love the "In 5 weeks...." message! I have always found it SO motivating!
Great 5 weeks!0 -
Good for you!! I think I've seen the most improvement simply within my own mind and attitude. I walk with a ton more confidence now. It has to be because I know I'm taking care of myself for a change and that makes me feel really good. I joined MFP the end of March and I've only weighed once since then. Only my trainer knows how much I weigh, I dont want to know. I know things are changing for the better because I'm starting to get the "saggy booty" in my pants LOL! I'm a pear shape but with all of the weight training I've been doing, I can see a difference in my shoulder area, theyre a little broader now. It kinda balances out my shape as my hips are finally starting to come down. So yes, in 5 weeks I can say with you that I've exceeded my own expectations as well.
I'm no longer obsessed with what the scale says, I'm just enjoying my journey day by day!0 -
Good going! Way to stick with it. You asked what makes everyone else happy - since I started, I have accomplished a couple of goals. First was to be able to walk to my mail box, which is a round trip of about half a mile, on gravel partway and on highway shoulders the rest. I am lucky - I live close to the community mailboxes! I was able to do that about 10 weeks after I started exercising - yay! It's still not easy peasy, but I can do it, and so my next goal is to get there and back without thinking Oh how much further now?! (like kids in the car - are we there yet?) And when I started exercising, I was lucky to do 15 min. cardio total. Now I can do 45 min. My knee still hurts (osteoarthritis) but 2 tylenol help with that, and the exercise is definitely helping my knee. I like the "in five weeks" thing too - keeps me motivated to stick to the calorie limit and it's a bit depressing when you have a bad day and it says if you keep eating like that day you will wind up weighing more than you do today!0

Thanks so much everyone ; 3; You are all so inspirational!
Laura, I kind of knew for a fact what I was failing miserably at, and that was eating proportionally appropriate meals, let alone knowing how many calories I consumed in a day. I also knew that going into a diet or exerciser routine expecting to lose weight would deter me from really doing anything worthwhile since I'm so impatient. Going into this with the sole intention of making a healthy lifestyle change instead was an excellent motivator and it's what will keep me going. Better later than never though, right?
mrsjoyw, my issue was accepting that change happens slowly, day by day, and I still struggle with it, but it's really amazing that you have something that works so well with you. You'd be surprised at how slimming confidence is! As long as you feel good about yourself, it doesn't matter.
iquiltoo, Congrats! That's actually a big improvement! I remember I use to dread checking the mail during the summers when I lived at my parent's house because it was a half mile uphill. It was always so frustrating. Maybe try and listen to music or something while you walk back and forth? If you're not already. I walk a lot at work, and it makes me miserable because I can't listen to music, so it makes the walk feel 10x longer than it really is.
I had a bad day mid-march where I went at least 2,000+ over my limit and the 'in 5 weeks' was my starting weight, so I was pretty horrified when I realized that. I was also a normal amount for me to consume four months ago, which would explain why I got so big.0 -
