32 POUNDS.. Is it really that heavy

Today I was walking on the treadmill at work with my Friend. We were using hand weights and the thought occured to me that I had lost 32 lbs so far. Well 33 but I gained 1 back!!!!! :-(
So I paused the treadmill and found 24lbs of weights to carry and walked on the treadmill carrying these for a couple of minutes. My friend pointed out that this wasn't all the weight that I have lost but that the fact that it was killing me to walk for a couple of minutes with all that weight was a great accomplishment for me. It really opened my eyes to see what that extra weight feels like once you shed those pounds.
It was in that moment that I reminded myself of how far I have come and even though I have a long ways to go I can and will do this! It made me proud of what I have done so far and reminded me that I am much healthier today because I lost that weight!
Just wanted to share!

That is so awesome! I was walking with my friend's baby in a front pack on me last night.... the baby is only 15 lbs but DANG i was dying!!! My legs, my abs, my back. It's eye opening..... Great job on such an inspiring weight loss!0

I did that too. I've lost 24 lbs and was carrying my 15lb dumbbells up the stairs (2 of them - which obviously is 30 lbs). I was exhausted by the time I got up the stairs and I thought ...wow. It's a real revelation. I can relate.0

That's awesome! I've often thought about doing something like this myself, like TBL contestants do on tv with that one challenge. It's a good reminder that every little bit helps!!0

I've yet to carry 29 pounds, but I remember thinking when I was at 27 pounds: Omg, I've lost three 9 pound babies! Lol! That's similar, right?0

What a great idea-- ha! Congratulations-- yes, you've come a wonderfully long way. So excited to be on this journey with you.0 -
That's a great way to put it into perspective. When I had lost 40 pounds I was picking up my 7 year old niece and carrying her around since that's how much she weighs. It's crazy when you look at it like that!0

Wow! That's amazing!0

Great Job Everyone....You all inspire me I've just started on MFP and haven't weighed myself yet.... I do feel a difference in the way my clothes fit already!!! I LOVE IT!!!0

My daughter is 2 and weighs 28 lbs, my niece is also 2 and a little larger and she weights 35 lbs...you've lost a 2 year old!!!! and then some.0

I have a 33-34 pound 4 year old... YES it is heavy! When I first did Weight Watchers (and he was 15 pounds or so), I'd exercise with him on my hip and it was tough but doable. I can't imagine exercising carrying him now! That is a LOT of weight to lose! Great job!0

Good idea! My daughter is 3 and 29lbs and she is getting to heavy for me to carry around!0
-
wow! way to go! yeah, when it is not on you but on a weight you are carrying you realize how much it is!0

Wow great job on your loss. I love this post the way it compares how much weight you've lost to something tangible. I have now lost a total of 38 lbs and my 6yo son weighs 39 lbs. I had to carry him through a hospital the other day (he was too weak to walk), and I thought I was going to drop him he felt so heavy after awhile. Can't believe I used to walk around with all that weight for about a year! No wonder I couldn't run a block before and now I can jog 2 mi.0

32 pounds is a tremendous amount of weight. I am sure you feel soooo much better now. When you go back and allow your body to try and carry the weight you lost you understand just how hard things were for you before.0

I like the perspective. I get so focused on how much I still need to lose I forgot to look at how much I have lost. I have lost a toddler:laugh:0

I have lost my dog! He weighs about 38 pounds. I also like to visualize 40 pounds of butter sitting on a table, and think that I have lost that from my body. Yikes!0

good for you!!
it's unbelievable how much lighter you feel when the weight comes off eh.?! it really does make a big difference. and not only that, but losing weight is SOOOOOO incredibly motivating in itself! you're now that much lighter and probably HAPPIER to continue with exercises when you see that it's having a true impact!
keep it up, you're on a roll!!!!0 -
WOW!!! I honestly didn't expect to get this much of a response! It is amazing to look back at where you started from! I am happier now and I know that I still have a ways to go but I am in this for the long run and it thrills me to take a look at how far I have come and to enjoy exercise and being healthier more and more every day! Thanks for all the response and sharing what you have lost too!

Wow, way to put it in perspective! I never thought of it that way:-) Sometimes doing exercises with 3lb dumbells is hard!
Congrats on your weight loss so far! 32lbs down is awesome! Sometimes I tend to think that just b/c I'm 30lbs overweight, it isn't as big of a deal...and when I do reach my goal, it was won't be as huge as say, someone who loses 100lbs. But your post has helped me realize once again, that 30lbs is a big deal! I can't even imagine trying to exercise carrying around my 30lb two year old! Yet, that's the kind of stress my body is under carrying around weight beyond what's ideal for my small frame.
Again, thanks & congrats, keep up the good work!0 -
OMG! That is fantastic! Way to put things into perspective I have exactly that amount to lose so this post caught my attention and I am glad I read it. Wow! Who knew right? I've exercised with 15 lb weights before (one in each hand) and never thought of it that way, that I'm carrying that weight around with me unnecessarily. Thanks for sharing this with us, it's a real eye opener. And way to go on the 32 pound loss so far. Keep up the good work and let us know when you reach your goals :-)0

i think ill give that a try. next time ill go walking with the 4 lb kb i got. then when that seems to light ill try the 8 kb i got
thanks for this
and that is soooo awesome
congrats on your weight loss too0 -
This is such a great idea! I'm going to for sure do this today at the gym...excellent way to put things into perspective. I have been feeling like 15 lbs is nothing lately since I can't even get 1 more off but you're right...its a lot of weight!0
