Think I am on the right track - but need an expert eye!

Hi,

Don't suppose a kind soul would have a look at my food diary and give me any tips or advice about how I could improve? I have treats, but always count what I eat (and I weigh all my food - unless its eating out, in which case I make an educated guess!).

Anything I can do to improve would be great.

Thanks :-)

    Looks pretty sensible to me.

If you have a fairly consistent exercise pattern you could just up your daily calories and stop logging exercise.

Really?! Ooh, am quite proud of myself now! Haha!

I am trying to do something everyday, at the moment its mainly exercise DVDs, but I am starting Pilates in the next couple of weeks, and will have daily access to an outdoor pool, so (when its sunny out!) I will be able to swim.

Thanks for having a look for me!x

With the amount your burning i think you should definitely stop logging it and just set your daily calories higher. Some days your burning more than you eat. What kind of results are you seeing?

Looks like you've made some great progress. Just remember though as you get slimmer you wont be able to lose the weight as fast.

I'd maybe start aiming to lose 1-2lbs a week while your in the over weight BMI group. If you're dropping weight too fast it wont just be fat loss it will also be muscle, and when you lose muscle your body requires fewer calories.

Yes I know that thanks I really appreciate your input! I'm thinking of upping my cals gradually til I get to 1500! And decreasing my exercise to 45 mins a day 6 days a week! I don't eat my calories back to begin with so I think I'll try just noting my exercises at the bottom rather in the system calculations!

    Good plan.

Just review your progress every couple of weeks or so and decide if you need to make any changes. It looks like you track your measurements pretty well so you should be able to see what's going on.

Bella, 99% of all looks good with you too. You are making great progress as well. I would just keep an eye on your cholesterol number, other than that it all looks good. I have the same issue though, I love eggs, I ended up switching to egg beaters to help get that number down some.

But overall you are doing fantastic as well, both of you are, and should be very proud of yourselves !!! You both seem very dedicated to this lifestyle, which is AWESOME !!!

Gotcha.... I have gout, so I need to get most of my protein from dairy ,eggs, lean poultry and fresh fish. No Soy,legumes, or shell fish.

And that is good as well !!! A healthy lifestyle pays off all the way around , that is for sure !!

Jenn, I am not a health professional here by any means... But my first thing i noticed is you have a very low protein to high Carb ratio. I would suggest you change that the other direction. Higher protein %, and a lower carb % ......Unless of course you are on a doctor ordered diet to eat at that ratio of macros...

If you are not, You need to figure out your LBM (lean body mass) and change up your macro ratio to reflect around .8 - 1.0 grams of protein per lb of lean body mass. 0.35 grams of fat per lb of lbm, then the rest to carbs.

But the overall food you are choosing is not that bad at all. I would just adjust your macros, then aim for those, with your daily food choices.

Sara and Steelsides have covered this extensively here recently. I would search for some of their threads on the subject. As they seem to have some very reliable suggestions and knowledge on this subject.

If you are losing 3lbs a week you are likely losing lean muscle as well as fat. This can lead to yo yo dieting and needing to adhere to a VLCD for the rest of your life to enable you to stay at a low weight/body fat level. It's healthier in the long run to eat more and lose fat at a slower rate.

It all sounds fine to me. I don't know how long you've been at it but as long as you're under your calories (but not by alot), thats all you really need. You can eat treats daily, you don't have to avoid any specific food (unless its for medical reasons). You can eat ice cream daily (as I do) and bread and anything really. JUST make sure you're within your calories.

Once you've mastered staying under the calories, it would be time to look into your macros. With proper macros distribution you will be getting more "bang for your buck" in terms of what kind of body composition and workouts you're trying to achieve. Heres a good thread for you to checkout for it:

I know girl I'm slowly upping my calories I'm struggling from a ED and I'm fully aware I've came a long way I started eating 350 cals a day and now up to 1100 slowly working my way up to 1400

I have suffered from OCD and a ED for more then half my life due to severe trauma and the vlcd is the reason I gained weight between that and being on steroids due to ovarian cancer! I'm fully recovered from the sickness but still struggle with my OCD but I'm fighting against myself to better my self and i feel i am on a good track for success this is a total lifestyle change for me!

Did you not notice the days when she failed to consume over 1000 calories then? That is the first thing that struck me. The general lack of food in there.

Ah ok, thats the problem with commenting on strangers diaries, you don't know what has happened in the past etc, and why people may be eating the way they are. You can only comment on what you see in front of you at the given time.

WOW, you are right, i just looked at a couple days here and there. I just went back through a couple weeks... JENN, you need to eat more girl. If your exercise cal burns are correct, you are eating WAY too little food !!
