I am completely discouraged at this point. I have just started working out about 3 weeks ago so that I can lose about 10 pounds. I hear about so many people losing weight at 1200 calories but I dont want my metabolism to go down, so I eat about 1700+ calories a day. I just knew I was doing great. Wel, something inside of me said "Weigh yourself" so I was like ok. Well the scale read 148 pounds. Thats 5 POUNDS!! I know I read that when the body isnt used to working out it can hold on to a whole bunch of water to protect itsself or something but I dont know if it is true. I think I also heard that it wll come off in about a month. HELP

Don't get discouraged! Remember that when you work out, you are building muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat! The same happened to me and I weighed myself on one of those Tanita scales, turns out I had lost a bunch of fat but gained muscle and retained a little bit of water. Try to measure yourself.
Try to cut back on the salt and try drinking lots and lots of water or watermelon/pineapple to help you get rid of the water in your body.
Don't quit! Getting fit is a marathon, not a sprint =D0 -
what does MFP say you should have for calories? if it is just 1200 and that isn't enough, try to meet half way like 1400-1600. you have to cut some calories to lose weight and with your exercise, you will raise your metabolism and force your body to burn more fat while at rest. Don't give up, you can do this.0

Are you measuring yourself? If not, start. The scale doesn't always show progress. If you just started, a little gain isn't unheard of.
Good luck and definitely don't give up!0 -

MFP says to eat only 1200 calories. However, I manually changed the recommended calorie intake to 1945 using TDEE-15 (I think) but I think I am going to recheck my TDEE to make sure that isnt too high.0 -

I have not measured myself. I figured that I need to. I just have to purchase a tape measure0
