Right guys...getting very confused. What is the best breakfast to have...carbs (e.g. porridge, bran flakes...) OR protein based (scrambled egg with smoked salmon). I thought it was best to get my carbs in in the morning and then lower them throughout the day apart from veg & fruit BUT i've since read that you should have a protein only breakfast to optimise fat burning?! confused! I did think of maybe having a protein shake...made with milk with lots of fruit thrown in...and a teaspoon of peanut butter for good fats but i'm just not sure! I am up at 5am and then not home until about 7.30pm so i have long days too so im trying to work out what is good to snack on etc..i need a complete diet overhaul! xxx

    BUMP

I'd like advice on this too..

From experience I do find if I have a protein shake before work it's much easier to wait for 11 for my 'elevenses' than if I have bran flakes or porridge if that helps!

As long as you hit your macros for the day, it doesn't matter when you eat them (except for post workout which is the most important time to eat). Protein will keep you full longer so if you typically have mid morning hunger I'd say up your protein in the morning.

I don't think there is a black and white answer to your question.
personally for me, if I'm running that morning, I will go for carbs. the reason I choose to eat carbs is because it's quick fuel for the body. I will then have a protein shake after my run. if I'm not running that morning, I go for protein. because it will keep me fuller longer. As somebody else said I believe if you meat all daily requirements don't worry about when you're eating it.

It doesn't matter... eat what you want, or eat nothing at all. Most important is to hit your daily calorie goal, with hitting your macro goals being a close second.
