Do you eat Lean Cuisine for the taste or the low calories?

A quick poll for those that eat Lean Cuisine or other boxed frozen convenience food:

a) for the taste
b) for the low calorie count
c) for the cheap price
d) for the convenience
e) for a different reason
f) I don't eat them

I have found several that I like eating for the taste. One if them is the Sesame Chicken. I now compare Chinese restaurant Sesame Chicken to the Lean Cuisine recipe and find the restaurant lacking. Another is the Turkey with Stuffing and Sweet Potatoes. Also like the Shrimp Szechaun Stirfry and the Steak Tips and Portabella Mushrooms with Broccoli. Their Pepperoni Pizza is not too bad either. :) I eat them because I like them, not because of the low calorie count or convenience.

You?

Low cal, convenience, portion control. They aren't bad or I wouldn't eat them but my cooking is way better.

    d) for the convenience

It was my first full-time job and I didn't know what to do for lunch. I always ate in the cafeteria in college, so I never learned how to pre-plan. I only had a half-hour lunch at this job, which was barely enough time to grab and eat Subway.

Definitely for the convenience and the calorie content. I do enjoy many of the flavors too--mac n' cheese, chicken fried rice, cheese ravioli, pasta primavera...all decently tasty!

I can't eat them, the sodium totally does me in. I used to eat them regularly and noticed my ankles becoming swollen almost constantly, and it went away when I stopped eating them (well, I stopped eating all microwaved convenience foods, so it's not Lean Cuisine specifically, but those were my favorite). Just as well, I would always be starving an hour after eating it anyways.

F - They taste like cardboard cat turds, they are not terribly filling, and they are loaded with sodium. Nothing about that is good, IMHO.

I don't eat them anymore. I used to eat the pizza ones for lunch now and again a while back but refuse to touch them now.

They taste like crap, they are expensive, they (in my opinion) are far too low in nutrients and quality for the price they charge and they just do not have the nutrition I want.

I can make my own for much cheaper that are higher in quality and much more nutritious without all the sodium, preservatives and such.

Convenience and taste. I love the butternut squash ravioli.

That one is the only one I liked. Not crazy about the taste and never felt full after eating one, but in the beginning of my journey I ate a bunch of them!!

Taste, low calorie count & convenience.

I don't eat them all the time .... but if I'm rushing around it sure beats fast food.

Chicken Alfredo is my favorite .... I have yet to make a decent tasting low cal alfredo sauce. I like to add steamed brocolli to the alfredo & other veggies to other Lean Cuisines .... more filling that way.
  • F. I stay away from them because of the sodium. I am trying to stay away from frozen foods now that I am watching what I eat, with the exceptions being frozen fruit and veggies and an occassional ice cream treat.

It's a mix between A (for the taste) and D (convenience).

There's this one lasagna that is the best lasagna I have ever tasted... I don't even know how to make lasagna on my own and I'm way to lazy to learn, besides that meal is only like 450 calories.
Then there's this awesome thai food that tastes just like what my favorite thai restaraunt makes... Also around 450 cals.
And I like the weight watchers pasta mexicana...

These are all a once in a while treat kind of thing though. Microwave meals that doesn't taste like crap are actually pretty expensive. It's way cheaper to just cook my own food.

Edit: I've never even seen Lean Cuisine in the store btw, they're probably hard to find or nonexistant in Sweden

Convenience and portion control for the most part. Most are pretty good or at least decent (love the salisbury steak with mac & cheese!). Even though they're high in sodium, I don't really have a problem in that area, so that doesn't worry me. The meal plan I'm on has various accompaniments for them - usually a salad or vegetable, plus fruit, maybe milk or yogurt (based on the entree's calorie count). So by doing that, I get pretty full at lunch. I also get coupons and stock up when they're on sale.

When I did eat them it was for the convenience.

I don't anymore because I try to avoid pre made food. And I have too many food allergies (Soy, Nuts, Dairy) for it to be worth.

Wait... If it taste like cardboard, does it matter what shape the cardboard comes in? Even if it were cardboard chocolate, it would still be cardboard.

Oh, I will never make fun of Happy Fun Ball!!!

    A, B, C & D.
I don't eat them often but usually have a couple on hand for days when I need to grab something quick. I've only had a few I haven't liked, most have good flavor. My favorites are the fish and rice and mac n cheese.

I prefer Healthy Choice. They're $2.74 at Walmart, huge variety, taste great, easy, convenient, filling (especially if you add a salad or other vegetable), and designed for good nutrition. Some may be a little high in sodium, but that's easily checked if you read labels. Most are 350 calories or less, some even include dessert for that. The Honey Glazed Turkey with Sweet Potatoes is my favorite; only 250 calories.

Just had one for lunch. Today was for convenience, but they aren't bad. I like the turkey with cinnamon apples, kinda small though...

I started out eating them purely for the taste, way before I even cared about my weight. My mom was never much of a cook - every night was plain pasta with some store-bought tomato sauce, or some plain rice with soy sauce - I'm not even kidding. The Lean Cuisine meals seemed so exotic and like restaurant food simply because it wasn't something I would ever get to eat at home normally. Now, the calorie count is a definite bonus, as is the convenience. It's finals week and I made sure to stock up on them over last weekend so I could try to keep myself under control. I love them - and until I have more time to cook meals for myself, they're definitely the best taste for calorie count meal that I can get quickly!

    F) I avoid them. I try to limit processed foods. I find it easier to spend 1 day a week doing food prep and separating it all into individual containers which are always kept in my fridge. Grab one and voila I have chicken, veggies & sweet potato.
