White bread

White bread is one of my triggers. I can literally go to the supermarket and walk through the bakery isle and indulge in the smells of those breads. But I've been doing great in not touching it. I switched over to 100% whole wheat sandwich thins and they've been great to me. Anyway, I ran out today and the hubby has 2 loaves of white bread in the bread box (for him). My co-worker who is not on MFP and doesn't know my triggers and doesn't know about my eating process and my triumphants suggests that I should just go ahead and eat that bread, "it's no big deal". And I get that it's all about calories and what not but my main question is, does anyone know how we process that bread in our bodies compared to the whole wheat bread, and what are your opinions on white bread?

Ugh white bread smells like wet sweat socks to me. (Maybe that will help you not want to eat it).

It's not a "complex" carb. It's a white carb, we process them different. Some people will say a calorie is a calorie, but I like to avoid 'white' carbs.

yeah man, leave that stuff alone. There are lots of lower carb options available now. They taste weird at first, but you get used to it, and then the white bread tastes bizarre.

I don't think it's a problem to eat white bread every once in a while.

But I've trained my taste buds to prefer whole wheat bread, and the white represents empty calories for me. I go for the whole wheat that has 50 calories a slice, so I can eat more without going overboard.

The main difference is the fiber content. Whole wheat has more nutrition, and protective benefits against heart disease. White just has most of the good stuff refined out of it. The higher fiber and protein will probably keep you full a little longer.

But it's no big deal either way, unless white bread makes up a significant part of your diet.

Holy moly, I LOVE white bread.

When it's fresh and soft, oh man, it's the best. And top with with Nutella... Wow.

Having said that, it's something I try to limit and it's certainly a treat.

I'm going to have to remember that wet comment lol. Thank you all. I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing and stay away from that white bread. It's just not worth the trouble.
