13.1 Miles... It ain’t half of anything!!!

Taken from the "I <3 to Run" Facebook page:

I remember running my first half and thinking, “Oh, I’m only doing the half.” Excuse me? I’m ONLY doing the half? NO. No, no, no, no, no. I’m running 13.1 miles. THIRTEEN POINT ONE MILES. I’ve trained for 3 months, giving up most of my Saturday morning sleep in time to get up and run. I’ve forgone the Cheetos for Cheerios. I’ve swapped the brewskis for water. I’ve chafed. I’ve been sore. I’ve lost toenails, had blisters, pulled muscles. Basically, I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I can run more miles in one morning than most people will drive the entire weekend. So this is a big reminder to me and to all half-marathoners not to cheapen the distance. It’s COOL to be a half marathoner. No, it's not the big dog, but that doesn’t make you any less of a runner. Be proud of your accomplishments! You’re able to run 13.1 miles! And that is pretty frickin’ sweet.

Thanks ~ I needed that. I need to stop saying I "only" did a half. :)

13.1 miles is incredibly impressive to me (not a runner at all).

Awesome! I've run 7 half-marathons and two 30K runs. In the last 2 years. .I know what it takes physically and mentally to complete and have chosen not to race a 'full' marathon. Even thought I only run halfs, it is more than the majority of population does.

I ran my first half last Sunday. (WHOO HOO ... go me!!!) The best sign we saw said "Half Crazy is Still Crazy"! I worked my butt off to run those 13.1 miles ... and I will never again say "only the half"!

    Very well said!

Just to put things into perspective: for some, running a 5k is a major accomplishment. And I agree it IS something to applaud! I don't think it's the distance that makes it noteworthy but rather the individual(s).

Good job Chrissy and congrats!!!! That is AWESOME!!!!

You're in good company with people that have worked their butts off to complete all that mileage! You know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you CAN run a half no matter how "hard" it sounds! If it were "easy" then everyone would be doing it!
