calorie variance

Hello!

I have a question that may seem quite obivous to some of you but has bothered me for awhile. Obviously, it is impossible to eat my exact calorie goal everyday. In fact, I've never been closer than 9 calories. So, what do you consider an acceptable calorie variance? What is the variance you aim for? +/- 50 calories? +/- 100 calories?

Thanks!

I would say give or take 50, but that is just me. And I would still shoot for the goal that is set, and not constantly allow yourself 50 more.

I usually go over since I'm set at 1200 but I try to keep it less than 100 calories.

In terms of the MFP metric, maybe +/- 50... but with most foods it's truly an average - there's no definitive calorie count for a piece of steak. One cut may have more or less fat than another and alter the count. So there's no real way to be truly exact with calorie counting.
