Help me lose inches

I ordered a top and trousers to wear at a wedding on August the 3rd. Bearing in mind that I've already gone up a dress size recently, I was shocked to find that it took a huge amount of effort to get the trousers up over my thighs and it was impossible to do them up. The top was difficult to get on and almost impossible to get off (I had visions of having to cut myself out of it. I'm not a very big size but what I am is very, very flabby/fat for my size. I've seen horrified looks from friends lately, when they see my jeans straining on my thighs. I need to tone up my top half and lose flab and tone up my lower half, including my flabby/fat middle. I'm pretty new to MFP and could do with the advice of you lovely, experienced MFP people. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks! :)

I am a firm believer that in order to lose inches you need to do strength training. In the beginning, I did a lot of cardio based workouts to drop the weight and it did happen for me, but it wasn't until I started lifting weights when my body began to build muscle and tone and made me look "less flabby" and lowered my body fat percentage. With the workout, I also try to eat more protein to build muscle as well.

I have recently discovered the painful joys of squats and planks! :0 Squats work amazingly well to tone up everything from your derriere down and planks work all of your abs when done properly. Every day to 10 mins of exercises, but each day a different one alternating back and forth. Squats and lunges one day, planks and crunches the next, etc. And cardio!!! You need the cardio to help burn off the fat to reveal those newly toned muscles. :)

Thank you so much! Time to do some strength training. :)

Thank you so much, lovely! I ordered a DVD called '10 Minute Solution: Tone Trouble Zones' and it's split into sections on Arm and Shoulders, Butt and Thigh, Abs, Total Body, and 10 Minute stretch. It uses a resistance band which I've also ordered. Do you think that sounds good? What cardio do you think is good for someone who doesn't move much and is very unfit (so needs to take it easy at first)? Thanks again! :) x
