One of the most COMMON things that hinder weight loss...

Are food intolerances!

I finally, finally, had my blood test done for food intolerances. Pretty pathetic when cutting something as simple as almonds from my diet can make me feel a world of a difference better. No bloating and stomach pains for just over 3 weeks now. No more distended belly where I look 6 months pregnant.

My question is... do you have any food intolerances? if so, what are they?

I wonder if there are foods that are many people are intolerant to??

Artificial sweetners and refined sugar. Not allergic, I have a plethora of food and chemical allergies. It's not the same thing. Most artificial sweetners make me feel lousy and makes my fibro flare. Even before I started cutting it out, too much high fructose corn syrup or straight up sugar would make me sick. Now? No tolerance for either at all.

I miss them less and less after the weeks of 'cleaner' eating. Nothing tastes as good as feeling like I've been hit by a bus less. ;)

    I am intolerant to:

    dairy - except hard cheese
    soy
    grease (I have no gallbladder)
walnuts (they burn holes in my tongue)
artificial sweeteners, but not stevia (migraines)
Fast food (which is usually fried with soy oil)
Iceberg lettuce (I grow romaine at home)

I try to keep a list on my Ipad and add to it so that I don't forget what makes me hurt. I have a condition called IBS-D with short transit time, which causes spasms of the lower digestive system if I eat the wrong things, so I choose VERY carefully.

I understand the discomfort aspect to food intolerances, but I'm curious -- by what mechanism do you suppose that food intolerances impact weight loss?

Apparently MANY people are dairy-intolerant. Maybe so mildly they never really notice.

I think I might be, as a get a headache if I eat large amounts of yoghurt. But I'm fine with small portions :)

I get a horrible stomach ache from peanuts :(

This. I don't know of any allergies that cause retention of fat.

I get migraines from red #40 but I'm pretty sure it was jalapeno poppers that made me fat

I agree intolerances don't stop you losing fat.

HOWEVER when you have lost a lot of weight it would be nice if your belly reflected that rather than being so bloated you look 7mnths gone.

Alas, i will always have the pregnant look as i have a bowel disease. God knows what i would have to stop eating to deflate my belly

Mine is dairy. I can do yogurt though. Funny I use to have these bumps all over my upper arms. I noticed a few weeks ago they are gone. So I don't know if it was giving up dairy or all the water I drink. I do know that since giving up dairy I don't have the horrible tummy aches, bathroom issues and hard tummy.

    Soy
Tree nuts (Almonds, Walnuts, Pistachios, pine nuts, cashews, macadamias etc)
    Dairy (Cheese, butter, yogurt, milk....)
Most fresh Fruit, (it's their raw enzymes - apples, pears, peaches, kiwis plums, - )

    I also don't eat meat.

I'm limited to my foods, but I found a lot I can eat.

Are you sure this was from the almonds? The timing of this and the fact that it's been 3 weeks makes me wonder if this wasn't just TOM!

I'm allergic to two of those things.

I don't know how much it impacts weight loss so much as just when you cut these foods out of your diet, you're not as bloated.

I have a dairy intolerance. I can tolerate small amounts but when I cut it out of my diet completely, i notice a difference in my stomach. Dairy is my one thing that if I cut out of my diet, but continue to eat the same amount of calories, there is a change in how my body looks.

I'm not allergic to anything, but there are several things that I'm sensitive to:

Dairy: mostly ice cream and milk. I'm ok with small amounts of cheese, and I can eat yogurt.

Gluten: this is one that makes it impossible for me to loose weight. If I eat anything with gluten in it, I will show up two lbs heavier the next day. It doesn't even have to be a lot of food. Also, when I gave up gluten, my psoriasis improved.

Processed meats, like salami, pepperoni, etc. This was huge for me because of my Italian background. But, it gives me migraines.

Alcohol: I can't loose weight when I drink. I think it slows down my metabolism.

Any processed, frozen foods, or canned foods like soup or chili, etc.: I don't loose weight on these. Don't know why, perhaps just the sodium content, or chemicals? But, even when I stay within my calories, I won't loose weight. I can eat fresh frozen vegetables and fruits, as long as they have no added flavorings, etc.

what did you ask for when you got your food test done. what was the name of the blood test? I tried to do that and all my doctor tested for was IBD and celiacs. which both came back negative... and i KNOW i have intolerances. Luckily, If I am good about drinking my green drink with enzymes and pre-pre biotics I do much much better.

If I'm allergic to anything, I don't know. Sometimes wonder if I should have testing done to find out. Have a friend who was tested at the age of 45 and was shocked to hear of all the foods she's allergic to, that she ate all the time.

I am sensitive to movie theater popcorn - which is fine since it's not conducive to my weight loss journey. I get the most impossible migraines after eating it. Also breakfast sausage - would make me sick for a couple of days. Haven't had that in eons.

If I'm allergic to peanut butter....I don't want to know.

Gluten: I get sick, swollen /bloated gain retarded ammount of weight (that sammich was not 2 lbs, thankyouverymuch) if i eat/drink something with gluten innit. And now, according to my doctor, once i go gluten free I will actualy gain weight at begining. So yeah, Celiac Disease sucks for weight loss atleast undiagnosed/shortly after.

I whine a lot about gluten intolerance lately, gosh.

I am allergic to anything containing sulfur: Primarily; Epsom salts and sulfa-drugs. However some chemicals and too much processed food that contain sulfides have given me reactions as well.

Gluten, lactose, kiwi fruit, brazil nuts.

Those allergies/intolerances didn't have anything to do with my weight gain.

I suffer with IBS and find that eating pasta, bread, raw peppers, some dairy products and processed foods all affect me. I had my bloods tested years ago and was told i have an intolerance to lactose and wheat flour - which would explain the discomfort and bloating i suffer for the foods mentioned above. The only thing that totally eradicates it is a high protein, low carb diet, but unfortunately it costs an absolute fortune to eat that kind of diet all the time and it always makes me crave loads of fruit.

There is a hemocode test you can pay for a rexall drugs stores! I want to get it done but it's too expensive for my liking.

The only thing I'm sensitive enough to to put me in pain is dairy.

Certain things make me feel really bloated so I only eat them sparingly. Wheat products and cruciferous veggies in particular, although I tolerate kale well enough to eat it on a daily basis.
