why are fitness calories not calculating correctly?

I am trying to log some excercise and find it hard to believe the calories it is calculating for some activities...4.0 mph walking and jumping jacks to name a couple. Anyone else encountering this? It was also telling me (when I reset my goals) that eating 1200 calories a day would cause me to gain weight. Is something up with the site?

Re: Walking/Running.... cal loss depends on your current weight, but I believe this site uses whatever values another user entered... so the default might not be exactly right for you.

google 'running calorie calculator' or 'walking calorie calculator', and you'll find several results. at least at my weight, all of them gave pretty much the same results, give or take. I think I ended up using one from Runner's World or something like that, but the specific one you use isn't important as long as you double check it against another one or two. Anway, use those values instead of the default.

Or, as i'm sure someone will suggest, invest in a HRM, but i don't have the money for one.

thanks. I am 157 trying to get to 135...tried logging 60 min of walking at a 4.0 mph pace and was told that burned 35 calories. Ha!

Have you lost 140 lb? Because that's what your tracker is saying. If not then I think the problem is that it thinks you weigh 15.7 pounds not 157.

    I noticed that, too.

Go to the Apps -> Tickers menu and select "Update Weight Data" and double check that you entered you starting weight correctly.

Really?? Wow thank you for pointing that out! Nope I have not lost 140...I haven't lost much at all (couple lbs), which is why I need to get back on the wagon!
