Net vs Gross Calories Burned

With gross calories being what you burned in the activity + your standard expandature (BMR rate) during the exercise period and net calories being just the calories burned in the activity (not including your BMR rate during that period), I was wondering what people generally tracked and what should be tracked.

Ideas/comments?

    I use this website and using the information from my HRM I find out my gross kcal burn and then follow the link to calculate my net burn - I then log the net!!

    ^ THIS I use for exercise eqpmt and HR monitors.

    Just using MFP? It does estimates this calculation for you when you just enter activity and time.

    Thanks for the replies. This is how I currently log my exercise (using heart rate and using that exact website you posted to get the net). I wanted to confirm that this is the way I should be doing it.

    Gross.

    It's all just an estimate, and most people aren't exercising long enough for the difference between net and gross to be a big enough concern. It's one of those finer details that isn't irrelevant, but isn't worth most people worrying about giving bigger goals like total cals, macros, workout intensity, etc.
