Overweight girls.... Do you LIFT HEAVY ???___

I have really been tempted to start a heavy lifting program. I was always so into cardio and usually just lost weight that way. But I don't just want to lose weight, I want to really transform my body.
Just this last fall I started taking Les Mills PUMP classes. I totally loved them, felt powerful and most importantly, saw some awesome changes in my body! It has really improved my strength and confidence. But since you do a million reps non-stop and full body, I wonder just how much I'd be able to increase my wts. Now, I'm thinking it may be time to start to lift heavy.
Since I still have a lot of weight lose, maybe 50-60 lbs, wondering if I should just continue with PUMP for a little longer as I drop more weight. Or is it a good time to start heavy.
Any input, and your personal stories would be great!
Thanks!!!

I lifted my heavy *kitten* out of bed this morning

Start now, an advantage of starting off overweight or obese is that you most likely have extra muscle mass already. Use it to preserve it as you drop fat!0
-
I do lift heavy and I also have a good 50 lbs to lose, but I am not "good" with my diet and so am not losing any pounds. Building muscle, not losing pounds .... I do run 3x a week or so and I walk a lot but that's about it. I've often wondered if I should do more cardio, but if the goal is to achieve the calorie deficit I could do that by making better food choices.0

I also do cardio like 2-3 days a week. Diet is tricky for sure, but over the last few months I have been pretty good with diet. Using TDEE method and macros at 40/40/20. I'm hoping that will do fine with heavy lifting.0 -
Me too, I used the IPOARM info to figure out and I start out each day intending to stick to TDEE - 20% (about 1700 cal/day), problem is I like to eat
I'm going to send you a FR, maybe you can movitate me!0 -
I'm around 250. SW 272. Whatever weight machine I'm on I lift enough to where the last 2 reps are hard to do. I haven't been as diligent in my weight lifting as I should. I'm still in my cardio cardio and more cardio mindset. I do cardio every day and weights maybe twice a week. The pounds are dropping but I'm not seeing much change in my body. Figure of have to lose a good 40 pounds at least to see major difference0

I am starting to lift heavy. You should check the New Rules for Lifting for Women. Its a great book.0

Go for it Be a strong sexy you0

I'm about 189lbs and I lift heavy and I do some cardio. I don't like cardio as much as I like lifting, though! It's a lot of fun!0

YES!!!!
I am busting my butt to try and get healthy, it's a long road and one I don't want to have to back track on if I don't have to. Building my muscle base now will only make me look that much more awesome nekkid when I am "skinny" but that's not what I'm aiming for- my goal is visible gorgeous muskles.
Don't wait- start now!0 -
DO IT NOW!! Know a good time to start lifting heavy?...........YESTERDAY!!! Seriously, I have seen the most changes in my body from lifting heavy(Stronglifts 5x5) than anything else. Just in the 8 to 9 weeks of lifting, my always large thighs are starting to really take shape and shrink. I have done p90x and Insanity twice each and never got the results I am getting now. I wish I would have known about lifting way before now and would have skipped all the other stuff and gotten in shape a lot faster:)0

I'm 195 at 5'6". I would like to lose 40lbs. I do zumba or step (both wearing 10lb wrist weights) 4 to 5 days a week for 50 mins at a time. I also lift heavy at least 3 days per week at the gym. At home I squeeze in pushups\situps\squats whenever I can...for example, I will do 20 incline pushups (hands shoulder width apart) and 20 incline pushups (hands triangle under my chest) before and after doing to dishes...or I will try to plank with my toddler on my back while we play (I can't stay up long at all with a toddler on my back, lol! But she LOVES when I fall down with her on my back!).0

Yep, I lift heavy. I weigh 172 now, but when I started back to lifting at the end of last October, I weighed 210. There's no reason to put it off or wait until you've lost more. Start now! It's fun, and a really positive way to change your body and shed fat at the same time. I love it! Anyone who is lifting, or thinking of starting may add me.... :drinker:0

I need to lose 60 lbs and I literally just started lifting ... not heavy yet (well its heavy for me LOL). I am having a lot of trouble losing due to my hypothyroid meds being adjusted, the doc recommended weights so I am trying everything I can.0

I started lifting heavy about 6 months ago. My CW is 181, size medium shirt, size 10 pants or dress. No jiggle. I still have about 20+lbs to lose, but I can tell you that I'm ecstatic with where my body is at now. This is the smallest I've been in my adult life. Well, probably since 10th grade.
I lift 3 times a week and run 3 times a week.
Start now. You'll love the end result. Check out Strong Lifts 5x5 - it's a very simple beginner program.0 -

I am 5'9" and 192 lbs. I have lifted for a few years but never took my diet seriously until now. I am finally reaping the rewards of what I've been hiding under 30 lbs of fat.
