Just bought a juicer, now what?

Hey so I went out and got a bargain entry level juicer (big boss juicer) and I would like to use it for more greens than anything else like spinach, kale, etc But I was disgusted by the taste of kale and spinach blended up in a blender I am affraid of juicing them together again. What can I add to take away from the strong taste? carrots? apple?

also, what are you great all around healthy and decent tasting juicing recipes please?

thanks

  • I LOVE juicing. Definitely don't do just vegetables together, at least in the beginning. I did a combo the other night where I threw in everything I had that was green: spinach, kale, cucumber, an apple, 1 pear, broccoli, celery, and 1/2 lime. It was delicious! My general rule of thumb is 3 veggies and 1 fruit.

Play around and see what you like!

My fave is apples, celery, carrots and a small piece of ginger.

I just wonder... how does one calculate calories when making juices?

I juice almost the same recipe every morning. It's delicious and refreshing, but not very sweet. Makes about 36-40 ounces.

    Green Juice:
    2 green apples
    2 cucumbers
    7 stalks celery
    3 handfuls spinach
    2 handfuls Brussels sprouts
1/2 lemon (organic, you can leave the skin on)
    1 inch ginger
    1/4 cup of coconut water

Enjoy! Juicing gives you great energy!

You don't get a lot of juice, but what you do get from the greens is powerful!

My favorite receipt is mostly veggies but it tastes really good.

    3 pieces of kale
    3 pieces of Romain lettuce
    1 whole cucumber
    2 carrots
2 Fuji apples (small to medium sized)
    1 handful of spinach
1 or 2 ribs of celery
    2 small lemons

This makes enough juice for my breakfast and lunch (I take it on the go with me to work).

You can also add a handful of fruit (I keep watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple etc cut up in the fridge). The juice will take on a sweeter flavor but you are still getting all your vitamins.

Put your greens in first, then any additional fruits or veggies will help 'push' all the greens through the juicer.

The mean green juice from joe the juicer is good. I always had apples/ oranges and carrots for breakfast and then greens and a little citrus the rst of the day. I found the less ingredients the better. Celery and cucumber create a lot of juice. Kale and spinach are good. I HATED beets juiced-Made it taste like dirt IMHO

    I juice daily. I usually drink about 16oz. 2x a day.

    Apple 3 x medium (3" dia)
    Carrot 4 x medium
    Kale 1/2 Bundle (long leaf)
    Lime 1 x fruit (2" dia)
    Spinach 1/2 bunch

Oranges can be subbed for Apples if you want a sweeter juice.

I run my greens through with hard vegetables like kale & carrots. It keeps them from getting launched into the shoot whole.

I just made the best kale juice today:

    4 cups of kale
    4 small apples
    1/4 cup of honey

I gotta have that sugary taste in my juice though.

If using ginger, a little goes a long way in terms of taste. As in start with a quarter inch piece. Same with beets, I only use 1 of them at most.
  • Add 3-4 green apples and handful of pineapple . That should make you happy.
  • I'm concerned about the high caloric intake .????

Anything tastes good with an apple! I was very shocked at the calorie content of fresh juice, so I put my juicer on the shelf until I lose a bit more weight. Nutrient rich for sure, but won't keep me full!

I'm actually doing a juice fast right now..today is day 20 for me and going strong...I feel fantastic. I usually juice a fruit juice in the morining...a green juice for lunch and pm snack...and my supper has been sort of a v-8 tasting type of juice...

    V-Grt

    1 large tomatoe
    2 stalks of celery
    1 yellow pepper
2 colored carrots (if you can't find them, the regular orange ones would be fine)
    1 green onion

I love the taste of this..I'm sure you could add a shake of hot sauce or pepper to it and it would taste FAB

As Joe Cross would say...Juice on!!!

If you're using it as a meal it's really not a big deal. The juice I make is enough for 6 8oz servings and is under 110 cals, I add water and don't have a juicer though. I use a blender to juice.
  • Apples are my best friend! I use 2 every time I juice. Also, cucumber is great with the apples. Don't be afraid to add bell peppers in either!

Romaine and granny smith taste good.
I haven't juiced with kale but if you are trying to add it into your diet you can bake it. Roll kale in a mixture of olive oil, small amount of sea salt, and cayenne pepper (good for digestion), bake on 275 for 25ish minutes. Taste wonderful.

^THIS! I just finished a kale, pineapple and golden delicious apple juice over ice. It was fantastic!

FYI - Spinach has less flavor than kale, so you may want to start with spinach and "work" your way up to kale. No matter what you put into your juices, make sure you ENJOY them - no holding your nose. ;) That was the advice I was given years ago and it's helped me stay consistent with juicing and to get loads of fruits and vegetables into my diet every week.
