Meals for work

I'm currently working as a back line associate for McDonalds. We receive $6 of food for our break which is great. But, I'm tired of eating chicken wraps or salads. Does anyone have any ideas for meals that I can take with me and leave in my car?? No fridge or microwave that I can use makes it a lot more difficult for me to bring stuff from home.

Buy the Igloo lunch bag with a freezer brick in it. I bring sliced veggies, fruit and non-fat cottage cottage cheese. My igloo has salads with tuna or sliced chicken in it. If I am too close to daily calorie goal (even after walking and the gym) I do another salad with a protein.

I agree with Sac. I work at Home Depot and always bring my soft side cooler with ice packs. I don't like my food in the fridge with all those germs of never throwing things away. Good for you to make the harder/better choice. I'm very proud of you for that. Keep it up and you will get there. We all need a job right.

Definitely a lunchbag with ice blocks. Keep that in your car. I do a lot of fruits, veggies, and different types of salads, sandwiches and wraps. I love the fact that I can make wa healthier and tastier foods for less money!! Good for you making the choice!!

I didn't think about a lunch box. What other sort of things should I put in it that won't require a microwave?

yogurt! hummus and raw veggies! natural peanut butter. good luck -- I bring my lunch in an insulated cooler bag every day. fruits, raw veggies, salads, and sandwiches (especially wrap sandwiches) are my staples. gazpacho is also nice.

My work lunch bag usually consists of 2 packets of instant sugar free oatmeal, 2 packets of splenda to add to my sugarless oatmeal :), I usually have 3 snacks (just in case), one is a special k snack at 100 cals for 2 bars, usually a fiber one bar, and an apple or a banana to add to my oatmeal.

Sounds boring sometimes and it does but when I get bored I'll switch up my lunch and do a turkey and cheese sandwich on whole wheat sandwich thins, yogurt, apple, special K bars. I even bring my own drinks just so I can keep an eye on my liquid calories. And if I want a bigger lunch I'll just add a full salad too.

Once a week i have the same issue with my work schedule. I have to eat TWO meals from a lunch box. I am a vegetarian so thats why there is no meat here.
I use a soft sided lunch bag with freezer packs. Things vary from week to week but i do try to get a good mix of fruit/veggies, protein and healthy fat . Carbs take care of themselves as they are in almost everything!
Greek yogurt (i put in freezer an hour before i plan on leaving the house so it stays nice and cold in my lunch bag an acts as another cold pack). Frozen blueberries, strawberries, peaches, etc... to add to plain or vanilla greek yogurt.
Frozen peas which thaw by the time i eat them, (helps me get in a veggie and a good source of protein plus helps keep cooler cold), cut carrots, radishes cucumbers, grape tomatoes, diced tomatoes with avocado (i like that it gets soupy.. The acid from the tomato keeps the avocado from getting too brown. I add a bit of Mrs. dash chipotle no salt blend.. Yummy!)
Bananas and apples. I also bring the individual nut butter packs made by Justin's or Artisana (they come in a variety of flavors) but you could just place a tbsp in a small sandwich bag and cut a hole in the bottom corner and squeeze out or put in a tiny tupperware container.
Dried fruits like raisins, prunes, apricots, dates and nuts (walnuts, cashews, peanuts, etc) bring your own trail mix. Dry cereal (like kashi go lean original)and just buy a milk at mcdonalds or buy the kind of milk or milk substitute in the small aseptic containers so it wont go bad.
I have also brought small cans of bean such as chick peas, northern beans, black beans or refried beans. They do not need to be refrigerated if never opened from the can. You could add these and some interesting seasoning to a garden salad from work, like salsa! Uncrustable peanut butter and honey sandwiches.
I buy and bring vegetarian jerky made from tofu, portobello mushrooms, etc but you could buy meat jerky or bring packets or small cans of tuna, turkey or chicken. They even have pre made tuna and chicken salads although i would tend to eat it plan than pre made. I always bring some sort of nutrition bar with me, just in case work goes longer than expected. I like zone bars, Luna bars, kind bars, quest bars (great nutritional profile, but tastes better microwaved for 5 seconds)
Get creative and think outside of the box...have fun with this....
