Setting aside the obvious fact that the healthier you can eat the better for you on many health levels.....
Will you get better results in strength training/muscle growth if you eat more protein and less of the not so nutritional food. I have this mental image that muscles are created by chicken, eggs etc and fat is made with chocolate and sugar lol.
I have started more serious focused strength training and don't want to undermine results with my diet. I am 5'4" (and a half!) 110lbs and in reasonable shape but want to increase strength a lot for my swimming and to conquer my lifelong dream of being able to do a pull-up.

to a point. There are diminishing returns on adding protein to your diet. Eating more than a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight isn't going to give you quicker results.
If you are looking for something to add to your diet, Add BCAA's and Creatine, both of which will increase your gains substantially, but you still have to lift. They amplify the effects of lifting, they help you recover quicker, and they help improve gains in muscle strength.
Branched Chain Amino Acids are described here

Creatine
