Today i saturday, which means i have alot of stuff to do, but i still need to excersise, so i was thinking of shortening down my hours to only 40-45 minutes of cardio and then leave the gym, is this bad? should i try to squeeze in some weight sessions also? what burns more fat? weights or cardio?

I have cardio only days two days a week; my usual week is MWF weights and TT cardio. My muscles need time to recover after my weight workouts before I stress them again.

you won't suddenly keel over doing cardio....but I'm not getting into the which burns more argument....so my answer is this....yes, as long as you can handle it and it doesn't interfere with your lifting \m/

Unless you're an intermediate to advanced bodybuilder, I understand that 2 or 3 times a week is all you need for lifting weights. Rest is important to allow the muscles to recover and grow. If you can't fit in lifting today, do it tomorrow but then it might mean you can't train on Monday if Monday is your normal lifting day. So perhaps consider skipping a lifting session (one day out won't make much of a difference to growth or strength).

So, yes, it's fine to just do CV work today.

    yes.

when i was lifting and running, i rarely did both on the same day. maybe a run in the afternoon on upper body day, provided i wasn't doing legs the next day.
  • It is definitely okay to just do cardio for a day as long as you are doing weights throughout the week. As far as which burns more fat...you really need both for fat burn. Cardio will burn more calories during the time you are actually working out, but a pound of muscle requires more calories to exist than a pound of fat. Building muscle turns your body into a calorie burning machine and will help you drop body fat. As everyone else has said, your muscles need time to recover, and they also need the right nutrition to support their recovery. :)

You got to let your muscles rest from strength training, so definitely.
