Can A Casino Buffet be 9500 Calories

I could definitely see that being 9500 especially with the ambiguity of "desserts".0

We went away this weekend for an overnight trip to a casino resort and we ate at the buffet. I totally didn't log it but now I will recount everything I ate.
1 baked potato with butter, sour cream and cheese
1 plate with green beans, broccoli, mashed sweet potatoes, ceviche, macaroni and cheese, 1 dinner roll, crab salad, saffron rice.
2nd plate with 1 slice of cheese pizza, more mashed sweet potatoes, more saffron rice and another roll.
Dessert: 2 bowls of chocolate ice cream (not huge bowls) sprinkled with M&M's, a few white chocolate dipped pineapple chunks, 1 chocolate brownie, 1 vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting.
I feel like that could easily have been upwards of 9,000 calories.
If you ate three 14" pizzas in their entirety, you'd be just under 9,000.0 -

Yes, it could easily be accurate. SOme foods have lots of calories and a splurge can consume tons of calories. Been there, done that. Hope to not be doing it on any more tomorrows.0

I would think so...especially the desserts would be insane. For example, I got an email yesterday for a "healthy" chocolate cheesecake recipe. It said that it was 12 servings at 396 calories each. So, if that is the healthy version, a regular slice is probably 600 or more. So if you had multiple desserts they would add up fast. Plus the side dishes were probably full of butter, etc. Just move on. It happens.0

Hi Patrick, yes if it was an out and out binge, and you have an unusually large stomach... and you lingered around for a while and got your second wind and you went for the most calorie dense foods possible..... then I think it could be POSSIBLY 9500 calories. I'd say it's more likely a few thousand calories less.. but either way it's not looking good.. Good for you for logging it.. a lot of people would try to just pretend it didn't happen... and I'm happy that you're going to get back on track for today and stick to the portion sizes you predetermine.

it's not judgmental, it's reality. what's the point of ignoring reality? the OP should probably eat a few hundred cal less per day this week to make up for it, unless she's ok with a couple pound gain.
what's the point in sugar coating? maybe if she realizes what this does to her body, she won't do it again. a splurge is one thing, almost 10,000 calories is something else entirely.

It's possible. I would log it. Take responsibility for what you ate. I don't mean to punish yourself, but if you ate it you log it. (If you're logging strictly.)

OP - Days like this happen. You logged it. You owned it. And yes it could be 9,500 calories. It is probably a bit less but very possible @ 9,500. This is a lifestyle change and lifestyle changes involve real life. And sometimes in real life we do not make the best choices. We've all done it (yes even you too Mr. Wonderful). Proud of you for owning it. Keep striving to your goals. You will get there!0 -

Ha ha, that's a good attitude. I think its all about what a person wants. I eat what I want then log and I only lose 1 pound a week, I need to make better decisions to get my weight loss moving a bit faster.0

You learn that real life is not perfection. You learn that you make mistakes, learn from them, and move on. You learn that you can't magically time warp back and fix your mistakes. You learn that it is a marathon not a sprint. You learn that you still are accountable even when you make a mistake. And you learn that small minded people are a serious waste of your time replying to. (Oh wait that last one was what I learned and not the OP)0 -

I'd get sick @ 2k over just from the grease. Though, with buffets it would be easy to go that far over. Going over once in a while is fine, but 9.5k is way too much.0 -

The mind boggles at the sheer amount of food consumed here and the fairly nonchalant replies.
I'll start on a tangent - I'm obviously here because I've overeaten a fair bit in my time, and I have had issues with accepting my body as it is, but more recently I have had increasing uneasiness about the way we eat and use resources, in a world where there is STILL so much starvation.
I grew up poor in a developing country and I spent most of my teenage years hungry and severely underweight. Probably why I packed on loads of weight when I emigrated. I used to think I hard earned the right to eat whatever crap I wanted, and I've done my fair share of bingeing once I ventured into diet land. However in the last few weeks I've begun to feel seriously disturbed at how much rubbish we overeat. The feelings of guilt I get now after overeating are less 'oh no I'll get fat' and more 'what gives me the right to consume so much?'
Yes we are lucky (and in some ways unlucky) to have so much access to good food etc; and everyone deserves a blowout every now and again but I wonder if people don't sit back and consider the difference between enjoying a good meal with loved ones just because you can (forget the calorie count) and stuffing your face to the point where you must have felt sick.
Actually my issue is less with the OP who ate 9500 or whatever calories but with all the replies going yeah, yeah whatever about it and shrugging it off as normal. I struggle to see how someone can eat close 10 000 calories without your body telling you that this is far too much and feeling extremely unwell unless you've adapted your stomach size to this sort of overeating which simply illustrates my overall point.
(By the way this post is not relevant to those who may have eating disorders as that's a different kettle of fish and one I'm not qualified to comment on).
I don't think anyone suggested it was "normal." But there's no use beating yourself up about it. It's already done, so now he has to deal with it. The problem arises for most people when they do berate themselves for it, and then compound the issue with emotional overeating.
Binges are going to happen with the vast majority of people. What you take for nonchalance is really a mindset that one should have to deal with the aftermath of those binges, particularly if you are an emotional eater. But it's not the same thing as giving yourself free reign to do it whenever you want. Of course you should try to avoid it, but if it happens, it happens. Deal with the present/future, not the past.
The problem is never a solitary binge. It's when it becomes a pattern of habitual overeating that it becomes an issue.0 -
You made the decision, log it and own it. But I have found that logging alone will not help me lose weight. I have to make a decision about what I am going to eat, before I log it.0

Thanks for putting into words what I find so wrong about most buffets. I avoid them. For one thing, they're typically priced to account for overeating. For another, there's typically a high % of seriously overweight people going back for seconds and thirds, that their bodies really don't need. I find it hard to believe you can truly enjoy food when you're eating that much, that fast. It's just depressing.

Again you try and associate your very small frame to others. I could easily eat 10,000 calories and just call it a splurge. Hell I had a 20,000 calorie weekend 5 weeks ago. While comprising it with a lot of food you would even approve.
For example on my deficit diet, losing 1+ lbs a week for the last 5 weeks, I eat 1.5+ lbs of chicken breast & 2.5 lbs of vegetables. Plus a large amount of other food...pint of ice cream, 5 cups of cereal, 17 cups of water, a few sodas...coffee...50% of my diet being consumed within 2 hours of going to bed.
Splurge is subjective.0 -

as for me "associating my small frame to others", that makes zero sense given that I can eat thousands more calories daily than most on these forums. it has literally nothing to do with anything and I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
even for you, 20,000 calories in a weekend is idiotic, and the fact that you're defending it is just ... i'm literally shaking my head right now.
but sure, shrug it off, keep doing it, do whatever you want - i really don't care. but for 99.99% of people, your diet would cause ridiculous weight and fat gain. fortunately for you, you seem to be a bit of a freak metabolically speaking.0 -
My son took me to the casino buffet today also. I stuck with the breakfast foods mostly, except for desserts. Log it, own it, move on. You don't get overweight by eating too much on holidays. Tomorrow is a new start.0

Logging a splurge like I did tonite , going back over and over, fried seafood, prime rib, steak, corn on the cob's, potatoe's, rice, crab, Mussels , salmon, fruit. And dessert's .
Could this be 9500 calories? I think easily and thus logged it so, could I be way off?

Yes, I think it's entirely possible.
Friday night, I had a "splurge." I even kept it within reason (I ate wayyyyy less than what I did prior to losing weight), but I figured it was at least a 2000 calorie evening. 720 calories of that was wine alone (which is fricken' scary as hell).
I agree with the posters who are saying to log it, own it, and move on. *kitten* happens. Just don't make it a regular occurrence. Realize that this was a bump in your road, make better decisions in the future, and move on.0
