I was walking two miles a day last week

I noticed that my one of ankles really hurts now when I walk about half a mile. I guess I must have overworked it last week. I normally walk a lot. I want to do some other activity then walking, dancing or running this week. I don't want to not exercise but I don't want to hurt my ankle. Would swimming be a good idea? I'm thinking about taking up swimming instead of walking.
