Calorie cycling with exercise, not diet

I keep reading about the benefits of calorie cycling in breaking plateaus (which I am on), and am wondering... is it the NET calorie intake that should be cycled? Meaning, can I cycle by doing more and less exercise each day rather than changing my calorie intake each day?

I doubt it would work. First, diet is about 80% of getting in shape, with 20% being exercise. Second, nobody burns as much as MFP says. Third, you can definitely overtrain. It is better to cycle your calories with food!0
