water retention

How do you guys break it? How long does it take to reduce it? I don't think I am consuming a lot of sodium. All I drink is water. I gained a pound, but I know it's water because I can feel the tightness in my fingers and feel bloated at times.

Drink lots and lots of water.

I had this problem last week. I drank a lot of water (I'm a big water drinker anyway, but the night before I hadn't been due to water works around my area), and within one day I had lost the pounds I had put on, plus more. Although, ideally, you want to give it two days before re-weighing yourself.

EDIT: And not to mention all of my bloating went which was really uncomfortable!

Thanks. I noticed it's worse when I don't seem to drink enough water. I will drink more water.

I have same issue and I'm already drinking 12-13 glasses of water per day.

I totally can hang on to water and then loose 3 lbs of water in a day - it's bonkers. A few things I do to try and speed up the process are drinking lemon water, just drinking extra water in general, eating lots of fiber, cutting out meat and eating tons of fiber. I think they help to varying degrees, I mean ultimately the water will correct itself, but I do notice if I drink a lot of lemon water it can speed it up a bit.

I have to greatly increase my water when I feel bloated or after I have had a sodium fest. Lately I have been trying to drink 12-14 glasses of water outside of the water I drink during workouts and other beverages

Agree with the extra water and lemon water. You could also drink a cup of coffee or tea with caffeine, which is a diuretic. If all else fails, try diurex or pamprin. I would suggest tracking your sodium for a few days too, you may be surprised.

I gained 7 pounds over the course of 2 weeks, nothing in my diet or exercise changed. I didn't feel particularly swollen or bloated and was getting seriously frustrated. I decided to give it two days before I called a nutritionist to figure out what was going on. My sodium is typically under my goal, so I didn't thin it was water, but in an effort to do all I could I drank myself silly with water. I think I drank about 20 cups of water each day for two days. I had to use the bathroom like a mad woman, but this morning I was 7 pounds lighter. I didn't change my calories. I took a day off from walking (couldn't make it more than 10 minutes without having to use the bathroom anyway) and poof, water weight gone.

I did change the food I ate. I didn't hit my protein goal of 25%, and I ate more carbs than I usually do about 55 %. There was just no room in my belly after all the water to eat meat or a protein bar or shake. It helped, making room for extra water. I don't know why my body decided to retain water, its not that TOM, nor are my muscles sore from working out.

Drink as much water as you can, and give it a couple days.

As everybody said, drink more water. Lemon water is great and coconut water is extremely helpful. Coconut water is one of the best electrolyte beverage but not to be confused with coconut milk which is hydrating but has high saturated fat. It also depends on the women's cycle - if you are close to your period or ovulation, the body tends to retain water.

Add sodium as one of your columns on your daily menu. Most people get in trouble when they assume they are getting enough water, or not eating very much sodium. We need to find out for sure what we eating. Measure your water and log it in your menu also.
