High blood pressure atenolol?

I was wondering if someone could give me their experience on this medication? I just switched over to it and start it tomorrow. I am taking linsinopril at the moment but found it was causing me a lot of water retention and possible irritating a skin condition so they are trying this for me. I have also had a hard time losing weight since I was put on linsinopril, not sure if that's related, but they are also running a thyroid test to see if something is going on there. I know atenolol is a beta blocker and linsinopril is an ace inhibitor so they will act differently and I've never taken a beta blocker before so I'm concerned on what the side effects will be, the pharmacist said I shouldn't have many issues besides drowsiness (which I already have) but my doctor said to call her if my bp dropped too low or I wasn't feeling right.

I have been on Atenolol 50 mg for about 7 months now and I thought all was well. I recently went on a walking holiday and really suffered with shortness of breath and my feet feeling like lead so much so that at one point I could only take 2 steps at a time. I was really embarassed as I was holding up the rest of the group. When I spoke to someone on the holiday she said she had a friend who had experienced similar symptoms with beta blockers.
I am also experiencing pins and needles in my hands every morning when I wake and yesterday got quite cold when I was out and my fingertips became numb.
I am going to make an appointment with my doctor to discuss this soon as I enjoy walking as a pastime and do not want to stop because of my medication.0 -
Thanks for your input! I feel like most of these medicines are worse than the actual condition. When I was untreated I would have headaches a couple of times a week but that was it. I know also that blood pressure untreated can lead to serious things like heart attacks, kidney failure and strokes though. Has anyone found it's helped or impeded weightloss or affected exercise as well? I feel drowsy and have a hard time getting up on my current medication so I can deal with that, but I do like to exercise often.0

I was on Atenolol for years with no problem. Whatever you do - keep taking your medication religiously. I didn't - I was very careless and often skipped meds because I was feeling fine. Guess what - I ended up in the hospital because of it. Last summer I was at a doctor's office for some testing and mentioned I had difficulty catching my breath due to the high humidity - they checked my oxygen rate and I ended up being admitted to the hospital for a week. It wasn't the humidity - it was my stupidity. I suffered heart damage becuase I ddn't take my meds. :brokenheart:0

I have tachycardia. My sitting heart rate is 125. I take 100 mg of atenolol twice a day and it keeps my heart rate about about 70 bpm. I don't notice any side effects now that I'm used to it. It made me sleepy at first.0

I take 50 Mg daily for my hypertension. I haven't noticed any side effects at all other than finally having my blood pressure be normal. I run about 9 miles per week and walk another 9 miles and lift heavy weights and chase my kiddos around...no problem.0
