Atkins "Fat Fast"? If tried, what did you lose?

Hi folks,

I'm a 5ft2 female, currently weighing just under 140lbs, heaviest weigh 175, lightest weight 128lbs. I have a goiter (swollen thyroid) although thyorid hormone tests have proved inconclusive.

Recently hit a weight plateau although I'm currently following the Atkins Induction phase 1. I read up on another alternative which is associated with Dr. Atkins called the "Fat Fast." Just wondering has anyone tried it and if so, did they lose much weight?

The diet consists of eating 1,000 calories whereby 5 mini meals of 200 calories are consumed with 90% of the calories coming from FAT. The diet is intended to be done on a 3-5 day basis only and is most suited for those with metabolic resistance/disorders.

Seems crazy to eat that much fat, limit protein and lose weight? However, one study at the Oakland Naval Hospital, found that subjects fat-fasted for 10 days, and reported no ill effects. They lost an average of 14.5 pounds in that time, with only a half-pound of muscle mass lost. The same subjects lost twice as much fat on the fat fast than they had eating nothing at all, without the considerable muscle loss the total fast incurred.

Here's a link if any of you have an interest reading up a little more - http://www.carbsmart.com/fat-fasting-really-is-as-awesome-as-i-thought.html

Anyways, let me know if you have tried it and how well it worked for you in terms of weight loss.

Thanks,

Laura.

I tried it for 3 days 2 weeks ago. It's pretty daggone boring and I couldn't do more than 3 days. I made fat bomb. bullet-proof tea and I did enjoy the heavy cream and diet soda "floats".

I lost 1 pound. However, I'm diabetic and my blood glucose readings were solidly in the low normal range (70-80) and have remained in the low normal range since the fat fast, despite some less than stellar eating over the last couple of days. I'm thinking about doing it for 3 days a month during PMS, which is when my BG's tend to fluctuate the most.

Yes, I have tried it, and I did lose weight. However, if you want long term success on a high-fat diet, look into the ketogenic diet. I have PCOS and insulin resistance and it works well for me.
