Standing vs. Fishing for calorie burn

I was on my feet for several hours today and logged it as 'fishing, standing' because I figured that's basically just standing there. But that said a burn of around 800 calories, which seems pretty high. Is it really that much for standing? I mean, that would be AWESOME as that would bring my big ugly red overeating bar down, but I'm hesitant to believe... is there something more to fishing that isn't there when you're just on your feet?

  • I would say no, unfortunately. Fishing while standing takes a lot of effort. Keeping your balance in the water, casting the reel, then, if you hook a fish, reeling it in. It is much much more strenuous than just being on your feet.

standing compared to sitting is about 60cal/hour more.

Those calculators include BMR. which is why it seems very inflated.

Standing really is little different from sitting and really should be a part of your TDEE totals. As going through the trouble trying to log 1cal/min for every moment you stand just seems pointless.

i would imagine they are thinking bass fishing, like casting and reeling a lot.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. Pity!
