need help w/sweetener for this oatmeal/smoothie
end goal: chocolate peanut butter oatmeal and/or smoothie to replace my protein shake at lunch.
known ingredients:
either rolled oats or oat bran.
rice milk
just great stuff peanut butter powder (organic brand of PB2)
omega nutrition pumpkin protein (supposed to be relatively flavorless, haven't tried it yet)
cha-cha-cha-chia seeds
cocoa powder (or better idea?)
but i do not know what to use to sweeten it. i need something to cut the slight bitterness of cocoa powder... i have a lot of room calorie wise, so don't need to go with something 0 cal, but at the same time keeping the processed sugar level down would be nice. is brown sugar a bad idea?
this will be an everyday meal, and i adore my chocolate shakes, so having this actually taste good is of high priority to me. i like looking forward to my daily shake, and have no desire to give that up.
i'm willing to exchange the cocoa powder for another suggestion if necessary.
for reference, i generally like the flavor of most chocolate powders. my wife suggests dates but that idea sounds roughly about as good as putting carob chips in a chocolate chip cookie (ie, no, please). i might be wrong, she might be right, but i'm hoping for a better idea.
i'm not sure whether i'm going to blend this, or overnight this in the fridge (or both).
i'm also open to other suggestions for additional ingredients that might work well in this.
