Okay so yesterday I asked the question does housecleaning count as exercise. Mixed reviews of course. Some quite passionate. Here is one for all the busy mums/dads out there who may be feeling this one.
Here's my alternative to the gym. Feel free not to comment if your full of pretentious advice on how nothing compares to exercise and "proper workouts", and if I've got the exercise "terminology" wrong. I'm loosing weight, was never overweight and we've already heard it. THIS IS JUST FOR FUN, an alternative view of "active", and how just natural activity is helping loose the pounds.
ACTIVITY v EXERCISE
" Mummy can you just......"
(get up, sit down, get up sit down, repeat throughout
the day with no more than 5 mins respite) Squats
Hoover, steam clean floor
(repeat frequently throughout the day as your toddler
continues a trail of crumb, sick, sticky finger goo, mess making) Upper arm work out, cardio
"Mummy can I just................" Squat with weight lift
(lift child up and down several times)
Push/drag a heavy loaded, wonky wheeled trolley around Resistance training
supermarket with toddler aboard and another screaming with
gravitational pull towards toy section.
Search for missing toys, small choking parts throughout the day Pulling, pushing, lifting weight,
( sofa lifting, pulling, bending, squatting, plank lay search) plank, squats
Late school run, carrying child, pushing a toddler Interval training, with weights
( NOW GO GO GO.................)
Potty training
(Carry toddler up and down stairs in a hurry, several times a day, and for Cross trainer
all those are they /aren't they moments)
Hill walk in a hurry carrying toddler, shopping and pull back of a struggling child Cardio/ strength training
Playground fun with two children in two different directions Cardio/ strength training/
( On/off swing several times, pushing a fully loaded roundabout, squat and catch from slide,
lift on/off slide, run and rescue the one that's escaped and stuck half way up the climbframe, interval training
Monkey bar it coz you think you can yeh right!)
Why do we always try to reinvent the wheel? Wasn't life simpler when we just did more and ate less. Right I've had my break for the day, now lets get lifting.
