elliptical as jogging

I have an elliptical machine, but I don't think that it records calories burned correctly because I can't personalize, as in height and weight. It does keep track of miles, so would it be more accurate to record the work on the elliptical as jogging/running with the speed or would that b cheating in some way?

Definitely invest in a HRM with a chest strap. That's really the only way to get an accurate calorie count from your exercise0
