Pain killers and loss of appetite.

So, I've always measured my food and logged it before I ate. It's the easiest way for me to stay accurate. Well, I bruised my coccyx over the weekend, and was prescribed vicodin for the pain (I usually only take ibuprofen, but it wasnt helping.) Anyway, not only has it made me so sick that i've actually thrown up, but it's also messed up my appetite, and I can barely eat. I have to take it to deal with the pain, but now I am forcing myself to eat. I've tried eating foods with higher fat content, and the only thing that is tasting good is fruit and rice cakes. i do take a multivitamin, so i am getting my nutrients, and i should be able to quit taking the vicodin in a couple of days, when the pain lets up. but in the meantime, should i be worried? is this a common problem? and as for the food ive logged and don't finish....should i go back and change it? i made a grilled chicken salad for lunch, logged everything before i began eating, took two bites, and couldn't finish it. any suggestions?

It's up to you on the logging. If your medication is curbing your appetite, I wouldn't worry about it since it's short term. Keep taking your vitamins, eat when you need to and go from there. A few days of eating very little won't be that bad for you.0

thank you for your advice....i told my doctor what was going on, and he said to take ibuprofen if the vicodin was making me sick, but it just doesnt touch the pain. im obviously taking a slight break from working out (aside from slow walking), because of the pain, so i figured it would offset my eating.0 -
It's common. I've been on Vicodin for years and the nausea comes and goes. It sounds weird but the best thing for mine is mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Anyway you're not going to be on it long-term so I wouldn't worry. Just do what you can and don't make yourself feel worse.0 -
One question.

You could always buy some Boost or Ensure drinks to use as meal replacements until your nausea goes away.0

hahahaha i dont know how people take these for fun! ive been prescribed vicodin several times (im accident prone), and every single time, i get so sick taking them! i take them for a few days until the pain is treatable with ibuprofen or tylenol, and then usually pitch the rest. i get so sick, i cant stand it.0 -
