As I was sipping on my third glass I thought I should ask before I make an accidental dent in my caolries.

All water is water. If you add something else to it then log those calories, too.

You could throw a whole cucumber in and barely make a dent in your calories.

Any liquid can be counted as water. Coffee, tea, pop, water, juice, flavoured water, seltzer water, etc can all be counted towards your daily water intake as they all hydrate you. Just be sure to count any calories you drink.

Wait, what?? Now, that is surprising. Coffee counts as water? I have always just counted plain old water as water, not tea or Gatorade or anything else- even calorie free stuff. Hmmm.

I count anything that I consume as liquid, providing it's not glucose related (rare, but for instance lucozade) or a coffee with milk. It's still liquid, but I prefer to track them as calories rather than water.

I count all tea I drink. I only really drink sparkling/still water other than that, and normally drink around 2-3 litres a day.

Okay, that's what I do. I count them as calories and not liquid.
    Thanks!

Your body takes hydration from everything you eat and drink.

Yes, coffee/tea/pop have caffeine however the dehydrating effects of the caffeine do not cancel out the hydrating effects of the water within that drink. Of course don't be drinking 10 cups of coffee a day and not drinking any water but all liquids count. Your body also gets hydrated from foods as well .. some more than others. Watermelon is a very hydrating food for example.

When I count coffee I usually count half (same with teas and pops). I always count the calories associated with the drinks.

This isn't all true, coffee, tea and coke does not count towards your daily water intake as its a diuretic meaning it actually just flushes through your system and nothing else.

It is a diuretic however the hydrating effects of the water within those drinks are higher than the dehydrating effects of the caffeine. Obviously one should not only consume pop, tea or coffee and no actual water. Everything you consume does hydrate your body by different degrees.

A cup or two of coffee or tea will hydrate your body. The real dehydration only takes effect upon consuming over 500 mg (various amounts between 400 and 800 mg depending on study) of caffeine daily. Coffee or tea can be as hydrating as plain water in small daily amounts. Again, not that you should only rely upon your daily coffee or tea intake as your hydration for the day but they do hydrate you.

Ultimately, if you are not thirsty and your urine is light yellow to clear you are properly hydrated regardless of the source of that hydration.

Coffee hydrates your body as does everything else you drink .
It only starts to dehydrate you at an intake of 5-8 cups a day.
