Stationary bike with no computer?

I own a stationary bike but it has no computer to track distance, speed etc. I also don't own a hrm(I know I know! I'm working on it) is there anyway I can track any of these to estimate calories burnt?

    hi,

if you have a smart phone there are various free apps to use that track different activities through gps.

I use runkeeper, it pretty decent.

    regards

How do you propose a GPS is useful on a stationary(i.e. not moving) bike?

    OP .....
The only thing you can really do is base your guess on perceived effort level and measured time and plug that into the online calculators. I'd recommend taking the lowest number you find from a calculator and using it as your basis for trial and error logging. There is actually a bike cadence sensor that does work if stuck in your shoe for counting revolutions (I think it was a Wahoo model ... the detailing of it is on DC Rainmaker's site) but if you don't already have it then you're spending nearly as much on it as on a basic HRM which has a lot more flexibility for tracking activities.

    Hello,

Without something like a hrm it's impossible to say how many calories you burn when going for a ride on your stadionary bike as you could in theory be sitting still or riding as your life depending on it.

However... If you are sweating like crazy when you are done. Consider yourself as having had a good workout :)

Or consider that you may have sat in a hot room without air conditioning.
