I want to get serious about weight training. I do upto 10 lb dumbells for various exercises. However I want to start seriously weight lifting. I am so inspired by all the women who have toned up with weight training. Where to start? I have access to a gym but I don't want to hire a personal trainer..

Check out these two myfitnesspal groups about New Rules of Lifting for Women, and Stronglifts 5x5 for Women. Both have how-to-get-started posts.

Stronglifts is a free website with a lot of good information on it. NROL4W is a book you will want to buy if you decide to go that way. I think Stronglifts is a lot simpler to understand and start with, but the NROL4W group is way more popular. You can't go wrong going either way.

start with starting strength by mark rippetoe and strong lifts.

NROL4W is ok, but it gets way too complicated after stage 3 IMO. the beauty of strength training routines like starting strength and strong lifts is that you have focus on 3-5 movements per workout and you can increase your weights every workout. NROL4W gets super complicated and the workouts start to take 90 minutes
