Body shape changes?

I still have a long way to go, but as I'm losing weight (although I am fairly new and haven't lost too much to begin with yet), I've noticed a bit of a change in my body shape. At both my lowest and highest weights ever, I've always had an hourglass shaped body. However, now that I'm losing weight, I find that my face and the top of my body have slimmed down, yet my thighs and hips look the same as before, giving me a pear shape. Does this go away with more weight loss as I've never thighs/hips much larger than the rest of my body before?

Or has such a change happened to anyone before and permanently stayed?

I was similar. When I lose weight, I lost weight on the top first. If you continue to lose weight and you are normally a pear shape, it should even out, it did for me. I lost a lot of weight on top at first and then it slowed down and I started to lose more weight on the bottom. You could also check out what you've been doing for workouts. Have you been doing more strength and toning on your top half than bottom half? That could also be a reason it appears you lost more weight on the top.

I have known a lot of people go from an hourglass to a pear - quite often. A lot of women tend to lose their 'girls' and that is the main issue.

My genetics have been kind and I have retained my hourglass figure, but you are definitely not alone!

I'm more of an apple shape these days so you're lucky in a way lol

I've found that the first places the weight goes from is the face/collarbone and boobs (typical!) and I too have found it goes from the bum, hips and thighs last which is really frustrating, I guess that's why they're called 'problem areas'.

Maybe some specific exercises can speed up some kind of 'push' to lose weight in those areas but I'm hoping that everywhere will lose the weight eventually

I'd be more than happy to lose size off my chest, haha. Though I'm hoping it evens out a bit after I lose more weight because I think I look bigger like this

It all depends on your genetics where you lose it from first! I personally lost a lot off of my waist, then my hips, and now my thighs. But my waist seems to have stopped shrinking!

You'll probably find it will even out eventually, because you will definitely lose fat off of your hips eventually - just when depends on your genetic make up!

Just keep burning fat. I have a similar problem like most men, i lose weight on my face, arms, and legs first. My stomach always starts shrinking last.
Once the fat is gone everywhere else the body will have no choice but to use the lower body fat.
  • Don't freak out. It'll even out. Remember that women (barring apples) gain weight from the thighs up and lose it from the face down. Your skeleton and genetics remain unchanged. Just keep going and it'll even out. Maybe not the way you want...I started looking pear shaped at first, but as I got leaner, I got tiny butt to balance my tiny boobs, but I am 36, 27, 36 bc rib cages and hip bones are forever.

Same for me! I tend to lose fat from my upper body really fast but it always sticks to my lower body. Then when I gain weight, it seems to always go straight to my hips/butt/legs first! I definitely see changes in my waist area and face now, but none yet when it comes to my lower body. I guess we just have to stick with it!

Same here! I feel like my waist has gotten a bit smaller too, and definitely my face. But my lower body is the same and even looks bigger in comparison to the rest.
  • Hi,

I have the problem of ridiculously big boobs and small bottom half. I've lost a stone and its coming off my tum (great), although my chest size has shrunk in inches on tape, i'm still only fitting into same bra size 34 g. Even though bra fitting guide indicates I should be 34dd. I would love to know this answer as my boobs make my overall appearance look bigger. Believe me not everyone likes having big boobs. Sorry to butt in on your post but would love to know if I will balance out.

Yup! The lbs have melted away starting in my face/neck/shoulders. It was very drastic at first...tiny upper body, not so tiny lower body Lol but it is starting to even out, I am now losing hips etc. Like another post said our bones don't change so just keep burning fat and your body will have to take it off of your lower half at some point. In the middle of the journey it leaves us with a weird body that we're not used too but it will even out. Good luck with the rest of your journey! :flowerforyou:
  • I have a big belly but since I lost some weight apparently my measurements are suddenly hourglass or ruler (borderline)?! 43-35-44. So weird.
  • I'm about to turn 30 so maybe this is why my hips widened?
