My son (about to turn 10) brought home a packet of poetry that he wrote at school for mother's day. He mentioned repeatedly how I love healthy snacks and exercising- just a few months ago it probably would have been watching TV and eating Taco Bell.

Here is a small sample:

He and I have been running in the afternoons & on weekends when we can, and will be running our first 5k together this weekend. He's also joined me in doing some workouts on the wii- EA Active 2 is our favorite. He has been making healthier food choices on his own recently, as well. He plays a lot of sports, including select baseball, so he has always been pretty active.

My husband was the instigator of this healthy lifestyle change and I am so glad he did it. We are all changing and learning together.

Just so you know-- I think this is super amazing. I have PCOS and am partially losing weight for healthy pregnancies. I want my kids to be used to a healthy lifestyle and it is super amazing that your son is happy about the lifestyle that yall are living-- it looks like he is very proud of you. Congrats on the change~! Hope more success is coming your way!!

    ahhh thanks!
  • This is SO SWEET.

Congrats to you and your family on making better choices, and running, and sports, and everything! You must have cried when you read it. I'm almost crying and I don't even know you guys!

Those runs you do in the afternoon is special mother/son time. He'll remember that when he gets older :)

Love it! I ran with my mom as a kid, and although I gained weight, I knew exactly what to do once I made the decision to get healthy again. That's such an amazing legacy! Enjoy the 5k with your little running buddy!

I just wanted to update this. My son and I ran our 5k this morning. We both walked in some places, but he finished in 32 minutes, and I was about 2-3 minutes behind him (I forgot to look at the timer and don't know my exact time, but that's not really why I was running anyway).

In the car on the way home, he told me, "Now I know why they call it a fun run. That was awesome!" With a big grin on his face. We're already planning our next one.

Then he went out and played back to back baseball games, and he has more tomorrow. I know someone who is going to sleep really well tonight!
