Working From Home

One of the things that has contributed to my weight gain has been working from home. Going into the office made eating healthy easier. I brought my lunch and a snack and that was it - working from home means that the entire kitchen is at my disposal! Since starting MFP I have noticed how much I eat out of habit (just having something to pick at) - or even boredom! Anyone else out there home all day? Here are some tips that I put together.

1. Just as you would pack food to take to work - have food ready for breakfast and lunch.
2. Step away from the computer for meals! I started to always eat while I worked - since I work a lot I started eating a lot! Eat the meals away from your desk.
3. If you are eating while working pre-portion your snack - bring a cup of grapes to your desk NOT the whole bag.

Doing the above has definitely helped. Any other tips? I am new to the community so please feel free to friend me - I need all the help I can get!

    I also work from home.
I made it a rule to never eat at my desk, I keep a water bottle close and maybe a cup of coffee or tea.
Sticking to meal times if I work or not is helping me, breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. If I get hungry between two meals, I make a cup of coffee or tea, with some milk it comes in at around 30-50 calories.

I'm the opposite. I eat much better working from home. I still have a quick bar for breakfast several days based on early meeting schedules, but more often I can make a good breakfast, which I never do when I go into the office. I also can make some great filling lunches that would be to difficult to have in the office.

My problem with working from home is remembering to get up and move more since I'm missing out on taking the stairs or parking far out. I have an alarm on my fitbit that goes off every hour to remind me that I probably haven't gotten up and moved for an hour! Moving during the day helps get me up to the sedentary level. Without that movement, I found that my normal day would be way below sedendary! So that's my addition to your ideas...Move more!!

I work from home but am the opposite too. I snack WAY less being at home. When I worked in the office, I had a drawer full of junk food. Being at home all day working, I do not have any snacks. I go to the kitchen to get them and even then, I use portion control. I don't even allow myself to snack or eat lunch at my desk.

Working at home also allows me to use my hour lunch to work out or clean my house during my break. I make myself get up hourly at least to stretch and/or take a coffee break.

I think it requires a lot of self discipline to not snack all day. You just have to learn what works to make it happen :)
