Question about this statement on facebook

I have a lot of very naive friends who post things like this all the time on FB. I checked snopes and it says it is a mixture of truth and falsehood. Has anyone here tried this? I tend to be skeptical and think if it really worked, everyone would do it!!

Daily in the morning 1/2 hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in 1 cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high-calorie diet.

You are right to be skeptical. Ask them for evidence that it works. Anecdotes aren't evidence.

There is no scientific studies on this so I would take it with a grain of salt in regards to it being a weight loss remedy. If you were to do it I would use good high quality honey - not your usual supermarket stuff but raw organic honey and the best cinnamon you can buy.

I think if you are going to do this you do need to exercise and eat right too..

if it works for you then good..

I really do hate all these lose wieght fast miracle cure-alls.. they are just money spinners to be honest..

People seem to want a quick fix rather than doing the hard work and getting proper results..
  • You know what they say about something that sounds too good to be true.

    This sounds like total B.S.

I was going to try it out of boredom and curiosity... the smell of cinnamon was so over-powering that I couldn't bring myself to drink it and threw it down the sink! Rotten. I''ll take my chances with healthy eating and exercise. :-)

I ignore mostly everything on Facebook that encourages to "share" or "like" or "comment" - I follow various Fitness/Weight Loss pages and I've had to unfollow some for sheer stupidity - I mean, I'm pretty new on the whole gym bandwagon but some of it is spurious sh*te designed to gain attention.

To be honest, I really dislike Facebook anyway, so it's not hard for me to avoid it - I'd always take it with a cautious eye and don't try anything unless it's been verified.

Put it this way - if it worked, then someone would be making a product with just honey and cinnamon in it, to which you "just add warm water" to use. People all over the world would be using it and they'd be billionaires. Since that company doesn't exist, you can take it as the horse*** it sounds like...

The mixture of "truth" is that the typical "benefits" of honey and cinnamon include medicinal uses. The truth (as pointed out in that Snopes article referenced) is that both have various positives (antiseptic, antioxidant, etc.). The "false" is that it would do anything to stop fat from accumulating if excess calories were being eating. Make sure you read the entire article.

Sounds like complete bullhonkey, the only reason it could even work is because it's like a sugar pill almost.

You know how there are two groups in studies for new medicines where one group receives the pill and the other group is told they are given the pill but they really just got a sugar pill? Well the second group will start getting some of the same benefits as the first group because they know what the pill is supposed to do help them. It's all psychological basically.

Cinnamon and honey definitely have health benefits - weightloss while eating whatever you want? I call BS on that one!

My guess is after a while it gives you raging diarrhea and you end up crapping out all the weight! haha (sorry to be so blunt) I know there have been other schemes that work this way too... but your body gets no benefits from anything you eat not just no fat...I say leave it alone!
    IMO

Drink plenty of tequila at night. I find it tends to help me purge and reduces my appetite during the next day.

Cinnamon has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in some studies but the results have been largely inconclusive. Honey has many medicinal benefits however the ability to prevent weight gain in a hyper caloric diet isn't one of them.

This is wrong. It must be done with vodka. I hate it when people spread misinformation.

Hey, I know this is anecdotal, but I've tried it. It works! Vodka has had a similar effect on me though, and I'm a bit confused at what the link is. Additional studies are necessary.

snopes is a lying website so anything they say you know is not true. whenever her teacher mentions to check something on snopes or wikpedia my daughter says those are lying websites.

Indeed, The Weight Loss/Fitness Industry in the US is estimated to be $20 Billion Dollars annually. (To put that into perspective it would take the NFL two seasons, and week 1 of a 3rd to reach that number.) If someone had established a magic potion such as this...well you'd hear about it in more places that an obscure post on FB.
