Low carb eating while starting to lift heavy?

I haven't started a lifting program, but have New Rules of Lifting for Women and am considering starting that up next week. Would low carb eating work well with a heavy lifting program? Or would I be better off using the nutrition plan set in the book?

Honestly the TDEE -20% thing is very confusing to me.

Low carb would not work very good.

Carbs are the primary fuel for high intensity workouts, which includes weightlifting.

I do kettlebells which is basically high intensity and don't have a problem. It does take a while to adjust.

I will say that I can't "top out" with the intensity like I used to, but I also have been consistent and injury free over the last two years.

Experiment. It may or may not work for you.

I suppose that depends what you call low carb.

I do weights 4 x per week and find that I need to have a carb breakfast on my workout days or I am really really tired later in the day. But I still only usually eat no more than 30-40% carbs in my day and week (some people call this low carb).

If I were you, I would take all advice, read some books, play around with your meals a bit and find whatever it is that gives you the best result. You may not know what that is overnight, but it's worth spending a little time on yourself to find out.

Might also be a good idea to join http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/102-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w they will be able to give you some tips!
