And how they work? I can only read so many forum posts where people dispute the same common stuff! I need to read something else. What do you guys recommend?

All of it. How calories from different sources, like from a lean meat vs a twinkie will effect your body and how exercise factors into all that. Also, how the body builds muscle.
I'm in the medical field and studying for a job higher up than the one i have now and the science between all this stuff is simply fascinating. It's amazing how the body is it's own living thinking organism just like us that makes decisions every single day. The more you learn about it, the more it seems like a character in a book.
I got a 12 hour shift tonight and i'm looking all over the place for something that'll keep my eyeballs busy. Bonus points if people recommend books that are available on ibooks0 -
there's a ton you can read about anatomy, but too much medical terminology and you'll be falling asleep, even it you were interested in it. My brain is not firing on all cylinders right now, i can give more ideas later.
NPR did a really interesting interview with Michael Pollan (not recently).
this is a link to some articles he wrote, he has at least 1 book out.
