Well I've been in this really bad cycle... I'll eat well and excersise for about a week and go down to 128lb... Then i will binge for a few days and go up to 138in what seems like over night... And then back to the healthy way and then back and forward etc... I can't imagine what this does for my body and I know it takes a huge toll on me emotionally... It's so hard to get back on track each time but when I do it feels great... Talk about an emotional roller coaster... I really want to break it! My goal is to way 115lb, I'm only 5'5" with a small frame... I will be very happy when I reach 120lb but I have a hard time getting below 128lb in the past year...

It sounds like you're losing a battle with your mind and only you can fight that one. After your successful health week and before you go on a binge have you ever thought about what it was that triggered the event? If you can find the thing that sets you down the wrong path maybe you can become more aware of it and try to change the outcome by doing something else to distract you like calling a friend and going somewhere and doing something healthy like walking the mall, talking, theater. I really don't have an answer but I hope these suggestions help.

I hear you. I've been in that sort of cycle for 6 years... I think I pinpointed my issues, at least a couple of them.

In 2001 I moved from VA to Ontario to marry a man I met online 2 years prior. My family disowned me, his family hated me, I was in a strange country with a man I realized I didn't really know, but loved anyway. I gained 75 lbs that first year. Then the cycle began. I'd lose 10 pounds, gain 20, lose 5 gain 25, etc. I loved my husband, he's all that kept me alive, but it wasn't enough.

My family eventually came around, but that only increased the home sickness. We moved 6 times in our first 2 years, trying to find that perfect place. Bought a home, a car, a couple of horses... still homesick, still fat.

Last July, we came home. Back to the Blue Ridge. Loved Canada, made good friends, but the mountains are in my blood. Hubby loves it here, too, and after 6 mos of job searching and living on 100 dollars a week, he's got a job he loves, and life feels like it's going to be ok. And suddenly I'm losing weight. Do I think I'll fail? Maybe there's a tiny demonic voice in the back of my mind saying I will... but I don't think so. I think this is it. I think I'm where I belong.

Ok, sorry... this is about you. :blushing: Examine your life and find out why you're self-medicating. What are you replacing with those binges? Hard questions, with harder answers, I know, but a necessary evil.

Good luck to you, and welcome!

Thanks for the advice! I think that more than anything I just needed to get it out there... Sometimes problems loose a bit of their weight when spoken...

Does anyone know the health risks associated of this sort of yo-yoing??? I think maybe knowing that would help me too!

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have been the same way for the last year. I have slowly gone up to 140 and would like to get back to at least 130....a little less would be nice! Anyway, once I loose like 3 or 4 lbs, I do the same thing as you. It's really frustrating. This time, however, I am going to try to stick with it. If I don't eat ANYTHING sweet, I should be okay. It's the ONE slip that kills everything for me. I bought popsicles and have been having one of those when I have a sweet craving. If you have one food that does that for you too, stay away from it completely!

As to yo-yo dieting, I just saw a show that said the long-term effects are that your body ages more quickly. You would get more wrinkles, etc. I don't know how true it is, but that's what I heard.

Hope this helped a little. Good luck.
