SOMEONE HELP ME WITH FITBIT!!!

Bought this damn fitbit, set it up, linked it to MFP and I'm freaking out!! I'm sure it's been covered a million times but I seriously can't read these long, drawn out posts--my brain is mush.

I have MFP set at active, 1550 cals, lose 1 lb a week. I have not worked out today and fitbit has just been adjusting my calories in MFP all freaking day. I'm up to have a daily allowance of 1957 calories. Do I eat all of this????? What gives with this business????

Also if I work out and wear my HRM while doing spin, where the hell do I log the extra calories???? MFP or fitbit??? Someone seriously just give me an easy answer before I throw this thing off a bridge!!!

    1. No, you don't have to eat back all the calories.

    2. If you wear your HRM and expand a certain calories, log the exercise on MFP.

MFP/Fibit will adjust those cals burned and reset your calories.

instead of saying "reset" I should say "adjust"

I log everything in MFP, partly because Fitbit would like to starve me. You can change the calorie adjustment for Fitbit in your MFP settings, under diary settings, but it looks like you can't stop it from giving you more calories. You can ignore that, though.

I do not wear my Fitbit for exercise since it double reports. I manually log my exercise on MFP.

I currently do not log anything on the Fitbit site because trying to log in two places messes up your data.

I personally eat back most of the calories I burn. After about a week of wearing the Fitbit you (and it) will have an idea of how many calories you roughly burn in a day, so the numbers won't seem so random when it adjusts!

Log all your exercise in MFP and it will automatically update Fitbit from there.

    Hope this helps! :flowerforyou:

There a FitBit user group you can join and post there:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users

    However, lemme try to help:
    1) If the MFP numbers are working for you, you can always ignore the FB adjustment or if it's that bad disable the sync.
    2) Log exercise and food ONLY on the MFP side and it'll propagate to FB side.

    3) OPTIONAL: With exercise, I go the extra step and create auto-activity records on the FitBit side to make sync more accurate. With the FitBit One, it's done the same way you monitor sleep: hold down button until timer starts to create record, to close record, hold down again until timer stops. When you log your exercise into MFP with the same start time and duration, FB will back out the cal adjustment accordingly. If you forget to create the auto-activity records, you can go to the website and manually create.

When you set your goals, you told MFP what your activity level was. It uses that to compute the calories you should burn in an average day. Fitbit takes the calories it sees you burn and if you are running over the computed calories, it will add more that you are allowed to eat.

You don't "have" to eat those. It means you can, in theory, eat those extra calories you burned and still get that 1lb per week goal met.

This. I have had only 1286 cals so far and fitbit is telling me, hey! Fat *kitten*! YOU NO MORE EAT!

I havent exercised yet and am pretty sedentary during the day but once I get my exercise in, Ill eat some more and those calories will adjust.

Sounds like you've been pretty active today.

    Go to the "Exercise" tab
You should see an " i " next to where it says "Fitbit Adjustment"
Click it and it will explain why you are getting those extra calories

As for exercise done with a HRM
Log it on MFP, with the correct starting time, and the calorie burn from your HRM
This will overwrite whatever burn the fitbit gave you during that time period and your fitbit will reflect the information you gave MFP
I have never had any issues using this method. If you find that the fitbit logs the exercise twice, you can delete one of them from the activity log on the fitbit site (this happened to me when I first got it, some sort of sync issue...that caused it to log with 2 different times)

The only thing I log on fitbit is Sleep. I have a zip so it doesn't know when I'm asleep, unless I tell it. Logging the sleep cuts my calories a little, but I don't think you have to worry about that with the flex or one.

Funny you say that I must've been active today! I hadn't exercised all day until 7pm when I went out for a quick 1.5 mile run just to test the HRM and Fitbit together! I haven't a clue as to why it's giving me so many calories!

So here's another one for ya----why does it give you calories and then take them away. What if I eat them and then I go back an hour later and I"m negative. I'm not getting it!

OH and now MFP says I have 2011 cals for the day! Though the front page says I have 478 calories remaining and fitbit says I have 218 calories remaining. How does a person not get completely confused here??

I've been wondering the same thing, and I'm not convinced the Flex is totally accurate. This is my first full day wearing it and I got the little buzz notification that I had met my goal of 10,000 at the same time I had been rocking my rocking chair this evening. After I got the buzz I watched the app on my iPhone for a few minutes and I could see the steps going up as I was rocking. I also got the overachiever badge not too long after, lol. I have been active, but I doubt I've really taken 12,000 steps today.
