Work weight-loss challenge

So, me and four female co-workers have formed a team for an upcoming fitness challenge within our company. It is a 90 day challenge, and the winning teams within the region get considerable cash prizes. I have been elected as the team leader since I have been working out and dieting for the past few months.

I was just wondering if anyone has every participated in a work sanctioned challenge and if so, how you were able to stick together and accomplish goals as a team. I am just looking for some ideas for inspiration and team building. :)

Sorry I have not done this as a work team but I think the way to keep the group inspired and working together is to set up a weekly group exercise and maybe a lunch discussion group. That way everyone can talk about their workout fears and overcome them and also keep everyone motivated by sharing everyone's sucess. The group exercise could be a walk/run and when people know others are counting on them they are less likley to back out of exercising with the group. Just my two cents.

Good luck, hope your team wins!!!!
  • Some girls in my office did this a few years back; they did a weekly "public" weigh in between themselves and shared a diet plan which motivated them to stick to what was on there. There was also the option of working out together at lunch - just a brisk walk or a jog or something. They found it great and all of them lost significantly. I think the big plus is that they all worked in close proximity and the team leader sent daily encouraging messages to the group. Good luck!
  • I have gone against co-workers in a weight loss challenge but never as a team against others which sounds really fun. I think one of the things you need to do first is maybe set up a day where you all can workout together if you have not done that also maybe go to lunch together so you can all get an idea of what type of choices you all are making as far as food choices. I am just throwing out some general ideas as you didn't say what you already have in place between you and them.

If you all are not close net co-workers schedule a meet and greet day and time to get to know what have and haven't worked in the past. What goals are they looking to accomplish over the next 90 days what are they looking for in terms of support as a team getting all the basics in place first.

*You all should keep a journal food, activity, measurments, and success!!!
    *Exchange numbers
*Reccommend getting there 8-10 glasses of water a day (more if working out)
*If you all have a common weak area like say caffiene (maybe limit yourselves to 1 or 2 a day)
*create a plan that will work well for all involved
Good luck I wish your team well and I hope this help with some ideas!!

We have a few weeks before starting, so I think I will get everyone started on journaling now by just tracking what we all normally eat and then we can all sit together and discuss easy ways to change. I like the idea of all working out together. I was thinking if we do a walk/run we may be able to get some of our guests in with us (we work at a hotel and have alot of guests we see repeatedly).

Thanks for the suggestions, and by all means keep them up!
