Artificial Sweetners - Blood Sugar Spike!

May I have your views please.

I enjoy flavoured waters and regularly chew sugerfree gum and eat sugerfree mints. However, I've read recently that the body treats sweeteners similar to sugar in it's production of insulin. If this was the case, wouldn't our diabetic friends suffer more? I must admit, the more sweeteners I have, the more I want, which is a similar reaction I get to sugar!
