Knees!

Does anyone else have intermittent knee pain? I can squat for 2 weeks and be fine, then all of a sudden squatting will generate a pain on the upper more superficial part of my knee. Nothing so bad that I can't work through it, and eventually it seems to go away... But the first squats of my sets are always so painful!
Does this happen to anyone else? Or are my knees just protesting squat days?

I have injured (pulled) the ligament in my knee and that was in April still trying to get over it. :@( stopped me from running and all thanks to an aerobics class. I am going back to my 1st weights class tonight. I'd say be aware of the pain and avoid doing stuff that aggravates it. Knee's are a notorious weak spot especially if you have carried a lot of weight in the past.
Good luck with it may be worth speaking to the Dr for some advise but try rest, ice, compression and elevate if it gets sore0 -
Is it possible to either videorecord or have an experienced lifter watch your squats? The reason why I ask is because if your form is sound, then there shouldn't be much pressure on the knees. Not saying that you don't feel anything there, but it's not typical to feel pain there intermittently, without some compromise to form.
I'm not sure what type of squats you are doing, but check out some videos of box squats, bodyweight squats, barbell squats, whatever, and just double-check that you got the technique right. Make sure that you're going low enough, and that your feet spaced accordingly, and are pointed in the right direction, are a couple of things that I'd check.
If you can record with your phone and post it online for people to watch, you might get some constructive feedback. Other than that, a doctor or physical therapist might need to take a look at it.
I hope you get this resolved. Squats are a really good exercise, would hate to hear that you can't do them.0 -
i have intermittent knee pains. everything from direct pain, to sometimes clicking sounds that happen the day before pain starts, that sort of thing.
doesn't always happen, but i now actively avoid anything that puts too much strain on my knees (even lunges). I don't know if that's the proper solution, but as long as I'm careful i can run miles a day, but 20 lunges might put me out of commission for a week.
It's odd -- I generally have good knees. I take stairs 2 at a time as a matter of pride. But something about certain movements (lunges, squats) in a repetitive manner just is high risk for me.0
